When her Office Romance<\/a> costar Brett Goldstein<\/a> asked on his podcast Films to Be Buried With<\/a> about her most formative films, Lopez, 56, elected not to skip his most notorious question: \u201cWhat’s the worst film you’ve ever seen?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s hard to say \u2018worst\u2019 because it’s a beautiful film,\u201d said the actress-musician, naming the Chlo\u00e9 Zhao<\/a>-directed Nomadland, which at the 2021 Academy Awards<\/a> ceremony won Best Picture<\/a>, Best Director, and Best Actress for McDormand. At Goldstein\u2019s prompting, Lopez made it clear the indie drama is her \u201cworst type of film.\u201d<\/p>\n Jennifer Lopez at the UK premiere of ‘Office Romance’ on June 3 \u201cYou can tell from my taste in movies what I think about this,\u201d said Lopez with a laugh, having listed 1961\u2019s West Side Story, 1983\u2019s Flashdance and other musicals and comedies among her favorites.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s not why I go to the movies,\u201d the Grammy winner said of Nomadland. \u201cI like musicals. I like romantic comedies. I like thrillers, you know? And it’s a slow-moving thing about grief and there’s no escapism to it. And I do like some movies like that\u2026 but that one I just didn’t.\u201d<\/p>\n Based on Jessica Bruder’s nonfiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century, Zhao’s movie stars McDormand, 68, as Fern, a widow living and traveling in her van across the U.S. amid the 2007\u20132009 recession.<\/p>\n Calling McDormand \u201camazing,\u201d Lopez said \u201cthere\u2019s no surprise\u201d that the movie won the actress her third and fourth Oscars. \u201cShe deserves all the Oscars. But I just didn’t enjoy it. It\u2019s just not for me.\u201d<\/p>\n Frances McDormand in ‘Nomadland’ She added, \u201cIt’s just a taste thing. And I know we need movies about grief!
