Good news for fellow \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d fans and freaks alike, we\u2019re returning to the other Martha\u2019s Vineyard for at least one more season. On Thursday, Apple TV<\/a> today a Season 2 renewal for the streamer\u2019s acclaimed series<\/a>, led by Emmy Award-winning star and executive producer Matthew Rhys<\/a>, which comes from creator and executive producer Katie Dippold<\/a> and Emmy Award-winning executive producer and director Hiro Murai<\/a> (and recent IndieWire Honors recipients, cough cough<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n

The news arrives just days before the highly anticipated Season 1 finale, which will premiere on the streamer on Wednesday, June 17. Additionally, Apple TV announced a new, multi-year overall deal with Dippold.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the moment audiences arrived in Widow\u2019s Bay, they\u2019ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,\u201d said Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV, in an official statement. \u201cIt\u2019s become one of those shows everyone\u2019s talking about, and we\u2019re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can\u2019t wait to return for another season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here at IndieWire, we\u2019re big fans of the show already, naming it not just one of the best new series of the year so far<\/a>, but one of the best series of 2026<\/a>, full stop. So, where will Season 2 take us, Mayor Tom Loftis, and the rest of this wonderfully funny and spectacularly ill-fated island community?<\/p>\n

\u201cSeason 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there\u2019s nothing to worry about,\u201d said creator, showrunner, and\u00a0executive producer Dippold in her own statement. (This, of course, must be read with a serious wink from Dippold.)<\/p>\n

Just last week, Dippold and Murai accepted this season\u2019s IndieWire Honors Visionary Award for their work on the show<\/a>. And, in a deep-dive interview with the pair, both teased what a second season might look like. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like there\u2019s just so much, the whole show is the ensemble, and there\u2019s so many characters that I would love to see more of,\u201d Murai said. \u201cI just think it\u2019ll be a thicker soup, a thicker stew [if we get a] next season.\u201d Dippold added with a smile, \u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of fun to be had, I will say, if we can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d stars Rhys alongside Kate O\u2019Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey. The supporting cast includes K Callan and Emmy Award winner Jeff Hiller.\u00a0Hailing from Apple Studios, \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d is created, showrun, and executive produced by Dippold. Murai executive produces through his banner Chum Films alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin and Rhys. Murai directed five episodes in the first season, with the other episodes in the season directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.<\/p>\n
