Princess Eugenie<\/a>\u2019s living situation has been brought back into the spotlight<\/a> this month, after an investigation revealed she pays no rent<\/a> for her royal home in London. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson\u2019s daughter, who is now expecting her third child, splits her time between the UK and Portugal because of her husband\u2019s work. In 2022, Jack Brooksbank accepted a job as a marketing executive with Discovery Land Company in Portugal.<\/p>\n

The company operates luxurious resorts around the world, including the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Comporta, where Jack and Eugenie live. Eugenie has previously opened up about living in Portugal<\/a>, telling the Table Manners podcast in 2023: \u201cThis is why Portugal is the dream because I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind. Not care. No one cares.\u201d<\/p>\n

A year later, in 2024, Eugenie revealed that her sons love living in Portugal. She told Hello! magazine: \u201cThey love swimming. The sea in Portugal is a little bit rougher.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we’ve got our feet in, but Augie is a fish. He literally loves it and we have whales and dolphins all across the walls.\u201d<\/p>\n

While in the UK, the princess and her family use the three-bedroom Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace.<\/p>\n

But a report by the National Audit Office (NAO) sparked public fury after it revealed that neither Eugenie nor her sister, Princess Beatrice<\/a>, who stays at an apartment at St James\u2019s Palace, pays rent.<\/p>\n

King Charles entirely foots the bill from his private income from the Duchy of Lancaster via the Privy Purse, despite the sisters having primary residences elsewhere and not serving as working royals.<\/p>\n

The investigation found that their adjusted rents<\/a> were based on outdated market valuations from 2018 and 2020 rather than on consistent current-year calculations, sparking public backlash.<\/p>\n

Now reports claim that, while the King is quite fond of his nieces, his son and heir, Prince William<\/a>, may take a tougher approach when he is king.<\/p>\n

The Daily Express\u2019s Chris Riches<\/a> said: \u201cPrince William has a huge call himself to make regarding who he wants in his future line-up of working royals and if the sisters should appear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the reports, the York sisters put on a brave face as they made a new appearance last Saturday, alongside the rest of the Royal Family, in the Cotswolds, for Peter Phillips\u2019 wedding to Harriet.<\/p>\n
