The family are raising money for charity for the Trinity-St James\u2019s Cancer Institute in honour of their father\"The<\/p>\n

The Laabei family lost their Dad to small-cell lung cancer <\/a>in November 2023 just weeks after his diagnosis and the family’s lives \u201cchanged forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

To honour his memory, the family created the Pedal to Peak Challenge, a journey that represents resilience, determination, and the strength their Dad showed throughout his life<\/p>\n

The family said: \u201cThis challenge isn\u2019t about the distance; it\u2019s about carrying forward our Dad\u2019s legacy as a devoted husband, father and gaga, and remembering the brilliant Consultant Surgeon he was \u2013 someone who believed deeply in the power of science to save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year marks the family’s 3rd annual Pedal to Peak challenge.<\/p>\n

The family are going to set off from their family home in Naas on a 250km cycle to Croagh Patrick<\/a>, before taking on the climb to the summit of the 2,500ft mountain.<\/p>\n

The cycle will take place on Friday, the 14th of August 2026.<\/p>\n

The family said: \u201cKnowing so many people are helping us honour our Dad\u2019s memory while supporting this important cause makes every kilometre even more meaningful.<\/p>\n

“Small-cell lung cancer remains one of the most aggressive and underfunded forms of cancer research.”<\/p>\n

The family will donate this year\u2019s fundraiser <\/a>directly to the Trinity-St James\u2019s Cancer Institute to help fund more life-changing research.<\/p>\n

The family said: “With your support, we\u2019ll keep pushing for progress – one pedal, one step, and one breakthrough at a time.”<\/p>\n
