Garda\u00ed are liaising with Spanish authorities after the brother of an Irish sports star was reported missing in Spain.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old man who is the father of two children has been living in Marbella on the Costa del Sol for a number of years.<\/p>\n
He was reported missing in Spain by his family earlier this week.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed have also been in contact with his wider family in Dublin.<\/p>\n
Concerns have been raised for the welfare of the Dublin man following the murder of a man in Barcelona on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
The man who was shot in the head at Carrer de Balmes in the Catalonian city has not been named.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the police in Catalonia said the investigation is ongoing and that a local magistrate has directed the police not to disclose information in relation to the murder.<\/p>\n
Garda sources believe at this stage the missing man is unlikely to be the man shot dead in Barcelona, which is over 1,000 kilometres from his home in Marbella.<\/p>\n
However, garda\u00ed are working with Spanish authorities to try to establish the Irish man’s whereabouts.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old is known to garda\u00ed and has been before the courts in Ireland a number of times in relation to burglary and driving offences.<\/p>\n
