{"id":496612,"date":"2026-06-12T20:19:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T20:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/496612\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T20:19:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T20:19:08","slug":"man-wanted-in-germany-over-alleged-kidnapping-arrested-in-cork-massage-parlour-court-hears-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/496612\/","title":{"rendered":"Man wanted in Germany over alleged kidnapping arrested in Cork massage parlour, court hears \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">A man wanted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/germany\/\">Germany<\/a> over alleged kidnapping offences was arrested this week in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\/\">Cork city<\/a> massage parlour, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/high-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/high-court\/\">High Court<\/a> has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Khalid Kurshid (57), a German-Pakistani national, was remanded in custody on Friday after garda\u00ed told Judge Richard Humphreys the man\u2019s daughter was a \u201chigh-risk missing person\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">A detective told the court that Khurshid initially told garda\u00ed that his daughter was in Germany with his ex-girlfriend, but later provided an address in Pakistan for her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">The court heard German authorities sought Kurshid\u2019s arrest through a Schengen Information System (SIS) alert, a sophisticated European Union-wide database of wanted suspects and missing people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Kurshid, of Main Street, Killorglin, Co Kerry, is wanted in connection with alleged \u201ckidnapping, illegal restraint or hostage-taking\u201d, according to the SIS alert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Led in evidence by barrister Jane Murphy, Det Sgt Michael McGrath told the judge he arrested Kurshid at Yang Sheng massage parlour on Marlborough Street, Cork city, on Thursday following the SIS alert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">After he was cautioned, Kurshid stated, \u201cI knew this was coming, it is from Germany &#8230; it is my daughter, I have custody now\u201d, McGrath said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Interpol and Europol are carrying out inquiries into the whereabouts of the child, a \u201chigh-risk missing person\u201d, McGrath said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Kurshid says he has been living in Ireland for the past year, McGrath said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">He said he was satisfied Kurshid was the person named in the SIS alert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Barrister Brian Storan, for Kurshid, asked the judge to make an order for him to be produced in court next week for the purposes of a bail application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">The judge said he was satisfied Kurshid was the person named in the SIS alert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">He granted the order sought by lawyers for the Minister of Justice, and remanded Kurshid in custody.
