Elvis Costello<\/a> has said he is not a fan of Oasis<\/a>, calling them a \u201csimplification of The La\u2019s<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n

During a new interview with the Liverpool Echo<\/a>, the London singer-songwriter discussed the difference between musicians from Merseyside and Manchester.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is probably an heretical thing to say to Mancunians, but I think that Oasis are a simplification of the La\u2019s,\u201d Costello told the outlet.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThere was a purity to [The La\u2019s frontman] Lee [Mavers\u2019] songs and the whole attitude of that. [Oasis] is much more ruthless, and undoubtedly effective, so I\u2019m not going to knock it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not for me, never has been. Sometimes that happens. Someone has a good idea and someone takes that idea and turns it into something that communicates to more people. If they\u2019re happy with it then that\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Costello admitted that he \u201ccan\u2019t really understand Mancunians\u201d either, adding: \u201cThey could be saying something nice, or they could be insulting me, I don\u2019t speak that language. I just can\u2019t understand anything they\u2019re saying. Newcastle, I can, weirdly enough. I can tune that one in.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that there are \u201clots of unacknowledged people in music\u201d, telling Liverpool Echo: \u201cI\u2019ve had tremendous good fortune so I\u2019m not going to say anything about that. If somebody has the opportunity, they should take the moment and they\u2019re not [going] to harm anybody that I can tell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cast<\/a>, who are fronted by The La\u2019s bassist\/vocalist John Power, supported Oasis on their massive Live \u201925 reunion tour last year<\/a>, along with Richard Ashcroft<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Costello previously criticised Oasis during an interview with The Telegraph<\/a> in 2009, saying:
\u201cWell Noel [Gallagher]<\/a> is deluded about a lot of things, most obviously that he is a songwriter at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat he even brackets himself in the same sentence as Paul [McCartney]<\/a> is laughable. You have to keep these boys in line! None of us are Irving Berlin or Burt Bacharach, you know. I sat at the side of the stage recently watching Burt sing \u2018Alfie\u2019 and it was magical.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another new interview, Costello told those who accused him of being \u201cwoke\u201d for removing the N-word from \u2018Oliver\u2019s Army\u2019 to \u201cgo fuck yourself\u201d<\/a>, and defended\u00a0Olivia Rodrigo while hitting out at \u201carrogant\u201d artists who take credit for other people\u2019s work<\/a>.<\/p>\n
