I\u2019m there, \u201cEr, she actually does? Especially when it\u2019s in relation to rugby.\u201d<\/p>\n
Honor says, \u201cWhy the fock are we going to their house anyway? The last time we went to one of their borbecues,\u201d she goes, \u201cshe asked us to Revolut her \u20ac50 afterwards to pay for the meat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sorcha rings the bell and Lauren answers. It\u2019s, like, air-kisses and all the rest of it, then we follow her through the gaff and out into the back gorden, which ends up being packed with people. Christian, I notice, is flipping burgers. He\u2019s wearing the apron with, \u201cPrick with a fork!\u201d on the front, which I bought him for his 40th, except he\u2019s wearing it inside-out, presumably because Lauren has decided it\u2019s offensive.<\/p>\n
I spot Ross jnr. He\u2019s doing this, like, dance with three girls and they\u2019re filming it for I\u2019m guessing TikTok. He gives me a wave and goes, \u201cHi, Ross!\u201d but I end up blanking him.<\/p>\n
No sooner have we sat down, than Lauren goes, \u201cSo, you\u2019re probably wondering why I asked you here?\u201d<\/p>\n
I\u2019m there, \u201cEr, because you\u2019re having a borbecue, and your husband is my best friend, and you\u2019ve known us longer than most of these knobs here.\u201d<\/p>\n
I end up saying it louder than intended and quite a few people give me filthy looks.<\/p>\n
She goes, \u201cIt\u2019s about the money.\u201d<\/p>\n
Honor\u2019s there, \u201cEr, we haven\u2019t eaten anything yet?\u201d<\/p>\n
Lauren\u2019s like, \u201cNot that money. Ross, you set up a bank account for Ross jnr when he was born.\u201d<\/p>\n
I\u2019m there, \u201cDid I?\u201d<\/p>\n
She\u2019s like, \u201cWell, you said you did \u2013 at the Christening? You said you were setting up a direct debit\u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

She snatches the old Wolfe Tone out of my hand, then her little thumbs go to work.<\/p>\n

All of a sudden, Sorcha joins us in the kitchen. She\u2019s like, \u201cWhat\u2019s going on? You didn\u2019t set up an account, did you?\u201d<\/p>\n
I\u2019m there, \u201cI actually did. Fifty yoyos a week apparently. No wonder I\u2019m always skint.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cSo what\u2019s the problem?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of money, Sorcha.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, it\u2019s his money \u2013 you set it aside for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Honor\u2019s there, \u201cIt\u2019s 45 grand,\u201d and the expression on Sorcha\u2019s face suddenly changes.<\/p>\n
She\u2019s like, \u201c45\u2013?\u201d<\/p>\n
I\u2019m there, \u201cGrand. Ingtons.\u201d<\/p>\n
She goes quiet then. She\u2019s thinking \u2013 like the rest of us.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m there, \u201cHonor thinks I should maybe pick a fight Lauren and just storm out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ross, that money could put him through college<\/p>\n

But I can nearly hear the debate going on in her head. One side of her brain is thinking, \u201cWhat would Sr Austrebertha do?\u201d The other side is going, \u201c45 grand is 45 grand.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the end, Sr Austrebertha wins out. She always does.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, out of literally nowhere, Sorcha goes, \u201cLauren, why do you always do that?\u201d<\/p>\n
Lauren\u2019s like, \u201cDo what?\u201d<\/p>\n
And Sorcha goes, \u201cYou roll your eyes whenever Ross brings up the subject of rugby. And I\u2019m absolutely sick of you doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lauren\u2019s there, \u201cAre you trying to pick a fight so you can get out of giving Ross jnr his money?\u201d<\/p>\n
