A tight-knit community in Co Galway<\/a> has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of a ‘lovely, courteous and helpful’ young man while abroad.<\/p>\n

Derek Carr, from Kilconly and Tuam, passed away “unexpectedly” on May 25 in Sweden, according to a death notice shared by his family on RIP.ie.<\/p>\n

He was predeceased by his grandparents Tom and Mary Carr and James and Celia Hegarty.<\/p>\n

He will be greatly missed by his parents Michael and Josephine, his sisters Lorraine, Bernie, Aisling and Sin\u00e9ad, brothers Declan and twin brother Donal, brothers-in-law Kieran Clohessy and Declan Connolly, sister-in-law Denise, nieces Michaela, Mia and Ella, nephews Kielan, Shaun, Kieran, Niall, Alex and Ryan, grandnephews Rian and Noah, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends.<\/p>\n

Derek worked as a truck driver for Glynn Transport transporting livestock, with the Tuam-based company paying a moving tribute to their colleague and friend on social media, reports Galway Beo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They wrote: “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our colleague and friend Derek Carr. Derek was known for his professionalism and kind nature, always willing to help others.<\/p>\n

“He had a love for trucks and driving, and his passion was well known to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.<\/p>\n

“He was a valued colleague and friend, and a huge presence in our team.<\/p>\n

“Derek’s dedication, positivity, and friendship will be remembered by all who worked with him. He leaves an un-erasable mark on Glynns Transport.<\/p>\n

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Derek’s family. May he rest in peace.”<\/p>\n

A number of Derek’s friends and colleagues have also paid tribute to the young man, with one mourner writing in a message shared online: “Deeply deeply saddened to hear of Derek’s passing. We met a few times on the transzone work and a decent a lad as you could meet. His passing sent ripples through the international trucking family he was proud to be a part of. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Condolences to his parents and family at this difficult time.”<\/p>\n

Another person added: “Sincere condolences to all of Derek’s family on his sad passing. I worked on the International livestock transport with Derek. Derek was an absolute gentleman to work with, and I never saw him in bad humour on the road, even when not feeling the best with his health issues. May you rest in peace, Derek.”<\/p>\n

A third said: “Sincere condolences to Derek’s parents, brothers and sisters and the extended Carr family on the sad passing of Derek. He was a great work colleague who was a pleasure to have know. He will be greatly missed. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace.”<\/p>\n

Another mourner said: “I watched that young man conquer all the livestock transport industry could throw at him, he grew into a fine livestock man. I enjoyed Derek\u2019s company in many countries and was always an absolute gentleman, may that man rest in peace and his family find solace in the fact they reared a fine fine boy.”<\/p>\n

While a fifth added: “Deepest Condolence to you Michael & Josephine Dereks parents, his brothers, sisters & extended Family on the untimely death of your beloved Derek. May God give you all strength in the days & years ahead. Derek was such a lovely, courteous, helpful teenager to us leaders in Foroige years ago & he never changed as he became a young man, when ever we meet him in his truck he was very courteous on the road as he was to us in Foroige. Taken far to young, but in his short life, he had travelled more miles than most, content in his truck on the highway & byways near & far, sadly his last journey was far from home. Derek may you now rest in peace trucking in your Heavenly home. Ar dheis De go raibh an anam.”<\/p>\n

Derek’s funeral was held at St Conleth’s Church, Kilconly, on Friday afternoon, with the young man laid to rest afterwards at Kilconly Cemetery.<\/p>\n
