Joseph “Joe” Patrick Connolly<\/p>\n

Tributes have been paid to an Irish dad-of-two who passed away unexpectedly in New York earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Joseph “Joe” Patrick Connolly, 51, who was originally from Newbridge in Co Kildare<\/a>, passed away on June 1, leaving his friends and family in the US and Ireland devastated.<\/p>\n

Joe moved to New York in 2000 and soon found a welcoming home in the Sunnyside Gardens community located in the borough of Queens.<\/p>\n

The Kildare native quickly became deeply woven into the fabric of his neighbourhood, a testament to which was his honor of serving as the Flag Bearer for the Irish Dancing & Music Assoc. Of NY at the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2023.<\/p>\n

Joe passed away unexpectedly on June 1<\/p>\n

Joe is survived by his wife, Fallon, and his two children, son Cillian (19) and daughter Cai (16). He is also survived by his devoted parents in Newbridge, Joe Sr. and Mary; his sister, Aileen; his nephew, Matthew; his niece, Emer; and a broad, loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.<\/p>\n

Affectionately known to many as “Activity Joe,” in his youth, the TU Dublin graduate played for Sarsfields GAA club and Liffey Celtic FC in his native Kildare.<\/p>\n

As a Master Electrician, Joe was a dedicated president and CEO of Solas Electrical.<\/p>\n

In a moving tribute, Joe’s family hailed him as “a man of immense selflessness and a gentle soul” who left “a lasting impression on all whose paths he crossed throughout his widely traveled, vibrant life”.<\/p>\n

Joe had lived in the US for more than 25 years and was hailed as “a pillar of the community” <\/p>\n

“He was a pillar of the community and will be deeply missed by his wide circle of friends and neighbors,” they said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“Joe made time for everyone and everything, leaving a lasting impression on all whose paths he crossed throughout his widely traveled, vibrant life.<\/p>\n

“Joe was a man of immense selflessness and a gentle soul (except, perhaps, when he was playing soccer). He lived his life to the fullest, surrounding himself with people and laughter.<\/p>\n

“Joe understood that life isn’t lived on the sidelines. He was always in the center of the action, bringing people together. We will remember him not just for the length of his life, but for the incredible bonds he shared with all of us.”<\/p>\n

Joe served as the Flag Bearer for the Irish Dancing & Music Assoc. Of NY at the 2023 New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade<\/p>\n

Joe’s friends have come together to support his family during this difficult time, and have asked mourners to consider making a donation towards his two children’s educational future in lieu of flowers.<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe<\/a> page to help support Cillian and Cai\u2019s educational future in the years ahead has already raised more than $40,000 (\u20ac34,500) at the time of writing.<\/p>\n
