Black Sabbath<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Tony\u00a0Iommi<\/a>,\u00a0DJ\u00a0Carl\u00a0Cox<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Catatonia<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Cerys Matthews<\/a>\u00a0have\u00a0been named\u00a0in\u00a0the King\u2019s Birthday Honours list.<\/p>\n

The annual honours recognise individuals from across the UK for their achievements and contributions to society, celebrating figures from the arts, sport, science, public services and charity.<\/p>\n

This time around, those named include the iconic guitarist Iommi, who becomes an MBE for services to music and charity, and\u00a0singer and broadcaster\u00a0Matthews, who is made an OBE.<\/p>\n

Two of the country\u2019s most celebrated DJs \u2013 Carl Cox and\u00a0Judge Jules<\/a> \u2013 have also been recognised, receiving an OBE and MBE respectively.<\/p>\n

Cox, 63, has been at the forefront of UK club culture for 40 years and\u00a0presented\u00a0the monthly Essential Mix series on BBC Radio 1 for many years.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m absolutely thrilled and deeply\u00a0honoured\u00a0to be awarded an OBE\u00a0in\u00a0the King\u2019s Birthday Honours List,\u201d he\u00a0has said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic has been my life for as long as I can remember and\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0been fortunate to do what I love and to connect with so many amazing people through the power of music. This recognition is not mine alone \u2013 it belongs to everyone who has been part of the journey. To the fans who have supported me throughout the years, the artists who have inspired and collaborated with me, the promoters, crews, and teams working tirelessly behind the scenes, my family, friends, and the wider electronic music community: thank you!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo receive this\u00a0honour\u00a0for doing something that has brought me so much joy is truly humbling. Oh yes, oh\u00a0yes!\u201d\u00a0he\u00a0added.<\/p>\n

Matthews,\u00a0who was previously awarded an MBE in 2014<\/a>, is fondly remembered as the lead singer of Welsh alt-rock band Catatonia, and went on to be a regular presence on BBC Radio, presenting on 6 Music, Radio 2 and Radio 4.<\/p>\n

Iommi, meanwhile, said at the start of the year that\u00a0he would \u201cdefinitely\u201d release a new solo album in 2026<\/a>.\u00a0He appeared on Robbie Williams\u2019 single \u2018Rocket\u2019 last year <\/a>and\u00a0received the Freedom of Birmingham award alongside his Sabbath bandmates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic has been my life and I\u2019ve been very lucky to share this journey with many amazing people and fans, and I\u2019m very grateful for all the support along the way,\u201d he wrote on social media. \u201cIt\u2019s been a privilege doing something I love and then to see that music connect with so many over the years. And, to be able to help raise money for charities close to my heart has meant the world to me. Thank you, Tony (MBE!)\u201d<\/p>\n
