Fun activities over the next month don\u2019t need to involve shivering in a field full of pumpkins\n<\/p>\n

It\u2019s \u201cfluffy pyjama, new favourite mug, turn up the heating\u201d season.<\/p>\n

Autumn can be a difficult time when it comes to filling the social calendar.<\/p>\n

Finding something worth wrapping up for can be hard. Finding an event that doesn\u2019t involve standing in a field of pumpkins? Well, that can be like trying to find a loaf of bread in an Irish supermarket during a weather warning.<\/p>\n

And yet… here are five events happening around the country over the next few weeks that might fit the bill.<\/p>\n

Oktoberfest at the Bernard Shaw October 2-November 1<\/p>\n

Think beer, bratwurst and Bavarian cheer. <\/p>\n

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from October 2 to November 1, Drumcondra\u2019s Bernard Shaw bar will bring the German phenomenon of \u00adOktoberfest to Dublin.<\/p>\n

There\u2019ll be DJs, German games, \u00adkaraoke and, of course, limbo.<\/p>\n

If your bank account won\u2019t stretch to a trip to Europe\u2019s largest Oktoberfest in Munich, you\u2019ll be glad to know that \u00adtickets to the Irish equivalent come in at just \u20ac15, and will get you two drink tokens and a Bavarian pretzel.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s plenty more Germany-themed food on offer as well.<\/p>\n

\"Oktoberfest<\/p>\n

Oktoberfest will take place in The Bernard Shaw this autumn.<\/p>\n

Dublin Theatre Festival, September 25-October 12<\/p>\n

Now in its 68th year, the Dublin \u00adTheatre Festival is one of the world\u2019s longest-running arts events.<\/p>\n

Almost 30 productions will be staged in various locations around the capital before October 12.<\/p>\n

The 18-day festival was opened by Teatro La Plaza from Peru, who staged an adaptation of Hamlet performed by actors with Down syndrome.<\/p>\n

While that show\u2019s limited run has drawn to a close, there\u2019s plenty still to enjoy, including Derry Girls actor \u00adSaoirse-Monica Jackson\u2019s star turn in Ciara Elizabeth Smyth\u2019s adaptation of Anton Chekhov\u2019s Three Sisters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe great thing about Dublin Theatre Festival is that it\u2019s eclectic,\u201d R\u00f3ise Groan, the festival\u2019s artistic director and chief executive, said.<\/p>\n

Galway Comedy Festival, October 21-27<\/p>\n

With a stellar line-up that includes \u00adRachel Galvo, Bernard Casey and David McSavage at the Galway Comedy Festival, hitting the road for the City of the Tribes will be well worth your while.<\/p>\n

The Keep it Tight live podcast with comedic powerhouses Emma Doran and Deirdre O\u2019Kane will be a festival highlight, taking place in the Town Hall Theatre, on October 26.<\/p>\n

\u201cGalway Comedy Festival will brighten the October bank holiday with a programme boasting a 70-strong line-up of international stars, homegrown comedy greats and emerging talent, playing 69 shows across 16 venues over seven days and nights,\u201d festival director Kevin Healy said.<\/p>\n

Dingle Food Festival, October 3-5<\/p>\n

Dingle in Co Kerry is hosting its annual food \u00adfestival from October 3 to October 5.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor 2025 we are making local produce the hero of this year\u2019s Dingle Food Festival, highlighting the amazing work our local producers do,\u201d festival director Martin Bealin said.<\/p>\n

The three-day festival will be serving up familiar favourites, including market stalls, masterclasses, children\u2019s events and street entertainment. The Taste Trail, seen as the highlight of the event, will take place on October 4 and 5.<\/p>\n

With over 60 businesses on this year\u2019s trail, foodies will have no shortage of delicious Dingle delicacies to enjoy.<\/p>\n

Spike Island Night Tour, October<\/p>\n

Sometimes referred to as Ireland\u2019s \u00adAlcatraz, Spike Island is opening its doors for its annual Halloween event \u2013 the After Dark Tour.<\/p>\n

The 130-acre island off the coast of Cork was home to criminals from the Famine right up until 2004, when the last prisoners were removed from the island.<\/p>\n

Its After Dark Tour gives the public access to parts of the prison that are generally off-limits, allowing them to explore \u201cthe haunting corridors of an abandoned prison\u201d and enter \u201cunderground tunnels once used for solitary confinement\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"Spike<\/p>\n

Spike Island<\/p>\n

Compelling stories from Spike \u00adIsland have attracted media attention from all over the world, with the Discovery Channel visiting island to film in early 2020.<\/p>\n

The After Dark Tour is strictly over-18s this year, with ID required for entry.<\/p>\n

If you have younger children in tow, the island\u2019s Spookfest Trail is a tour that\u2019s suitable for the whole family.<\/p>\n
