Amanda Seyfried has opened up about the intense period that followed her comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk last year.<\/a><\/p>\n

Shortly after an assassin murdered Kirk<\/a> in September 2025, Seyfried commented on an Instagram Reel montage<\/a> of the Turning Point USA founder\u2019s most controversial statements, writing: \u201cHe was hateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

After receiving backlash from Kirk\u2019s supporters, Seyfried clarified in a separate Instagram post: \u201cI can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk\u2019s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a new interview with British GQ<\/a>, Seyfried revealed she had to hire a bodyguard in the wake of the furor.<\/p>\n

\u201cA, I\u2019m allowed to f***ing voice my feelings, and B, do it in a way that\u2019s not unkind necessarily. But there\u2019s just an outsized fear and hatred and impulse to bash and to tear down. And I experienced a very small fraction of that,\u201d The Housemaid star said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want my kids to be able to feel safe to voice their opinions as long as they\u2019re not harmful,\u201d she continued. \u201cSo I\u2019m like, \u2018What do I do? What do I say?\u2019 And then all of a sudden I find myself with a f***ing bodyguard at the airport and I\u2019m like, \u2018This is crazy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Seyfried previously doubled down on her criticism of Kirk in a November 2025 interview with Who What Wear<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m not fucking apologizing for that\u2026 what I said was pretty damn factual, and I\u2019m free to have an opinion, of course,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Mamma Mia star added that she felt her statement had been taken out of context.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized \u2013 which is what people do, of course,\u201d she told the fashion publication.<\/p>\n

Kirk, 31, was shot dead by a sniper<\/a> on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10 last year.<\/p>\n

He was the father of two children, a son and a daughter, whom he shared with his wife, Erika Kirk, who has since succeeded him as TPUSA CEO.<\/p>\n

Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah resident accused of killing the MAGA commentator, has been charged with aggravated murder<\/a>.
