The development is of strategic importance for Hungary, as<\/p>\n<p>the creation of the first anti-parasitic mRNA vaccine could represent a significant scientific breakthrough on an international level,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">wrote the consortium leader company, which specializes in the development of immunization technologies. A Brazilian professional partner is also participating in the implementation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the announcement, researchers will develop a vaccine that neutralizes the immune evasion mechanisms of the Trypanosoma cruzi (Tc) parasite over the next three years. Chagas disease, caused by Tc, is a severe, chronic infection that, during its latent phase lasting years or decades, causes irreversible damage to the heart muscle and digestive system, and, less commonly, neurological complications.<\/p>\n<p>There is currently no approved vaccine against it, even though it threatens up to 100 million people and is spreading in Europe as well due to migration and global warming.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project, launched in May, received funding from the Life Sciences Catalyst Program\u2019s \u201cTarget to POC\u201d initiative, which has a total budget of 7.4 billion forints. A call for proposals encouraging collaboration among stakeholders in the research, development, and innovation ecosystem was announced in November 2025 to support drug development research with international market potential.
