{"id":501498,"date":"2026-06-15T23:06:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T23:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/501498\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T23:06:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T23:06:12","slug":"donegal-man-charged-with-four-child-sex-offences-appears-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/501498\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegal man charged with four child sex offences appears in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Donegal man has appeared in court charged with four alleged sexual offences involving a child.<\/p>\n<p>The man, who is in his 40s and cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Judge Emile Daly at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/courts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Letterkenny District Court.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The man faces one charge that he did, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification or corrupting or depraving a child, intentionally caused a child under the age of 17 to to watch another person engaging in sexual activity, to look at an image of that person or another person engaging in a sexual activity. The charge is contrary to section 6 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The man also faces a charge that he, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification from the presence of a child or corrupting or depraving a child, intentionally engaged in a sexual activity, masturbation, whether or not with another person. That charge is contrary to section 5 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He is charged that he, for sexual purposes, invited, induced, counselled or incited a child under the age of 15 to touch, with a part of the body or with an object, the body of another person. The charge is contrary to section 4 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He is also charged with sexually assaulting the same person. The charge is contrary to section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990 as substituted by section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act, 2001.<\/p>\n<p>All four charges relate to dates in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-sans font-semibold text-xl md:text-[30px] leading-9 text-primary w-full\">\n        You may also be interested in\n    <\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/lead-stories\/little-superhero-daibhin-curran-jets-home-637953\" class=\"block w-2\/5 shrink-0\" aria-label=\"Little superhero Daibh\u00edn Curran jets home!\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/little-superhero-daibh-iacute-n-curran-jets-home.jpg\" class=\"max-w-full w-full h-full object-contain relative z-10\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\"  alt=\"Little superhero Daibh\u00edn Curran jets home!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/news\/donegal-car-dealer-issues-plea-over-missing-recovery-truck-637949\" class=\"block w-2\/5 shrink-0\" aria-label=\"Donegal car dealer issues plea over missing recovery truck\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/donegal-car-dealer-issues-plea-over-missing-recovery-truck.jpg\" class=\"max-w-full w-full h-full object-contain relative z-10\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\"  alt=\"Donegal car dealer issues plea over missing recovery truck\" \/><\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Detective Sergeant Shaun Paul Barrett gave evidence of arresting the man under section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 for the purpose of charge.<\/p>\n<p>He made no reply when each of the four charges were put to him, the court was informed.<\/p>\n<p>Bail was granted on condition that the man: provide an address to An Garda Siochana; give a mobile phone number at which he will be contactable 24\/7; not interfere with the alleged injured party or any witnesses in the case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Detective Sergeant Barrett told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the matters be sent forward to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/courts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Letterkenny Circuit Court.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher appeared on behalf of the accused man.<\/p>\n<p>The matter was adjourned until September to allow for the service of a book of evidence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Donegal man has appeared in court charged with four alleged sexual offences involving a child.
