Sean Penn<\/a> will direct a new film about the January 6 riot set to star Bradley Cooper<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Deadline<\/a>, the star, who recently won<\/a> his third Oscar, will bring what\u2019s been described as a \u201cpassion project\u201d to the screen and act as both writer and director.<\/p>\n

The as-yet-untitled drama will follow the life of a police officer who gets mixed up in the violent insurrection of 2021<\/a>. Cooper is reportedly in talks to play him.<\/p>\n

The film has also been referred to as an \u201cunexpected story about friendship\u201d that will be made in collaboration with the real-life subject whose identity is being kept hidden for now.<\/p>\n

Penn attended<\/a> a January 6 House committee hearing in 2022, describing himself as \u201cjust another citizen\u201d who was there to observe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we all saw what happened on January 6, and now we\u2019re looking to see if justice comes on the other side of it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Penn has also previously<\/a> referred<\/a> to Donald Trump as \u201can enemy of mankind\u201d and a \u201cnarcissist\u201d.<\/p>\n

The multi-hyphenate was most recently seen in Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s revolutionary comedy thriller One Battle After Another<\/a>, a performance that won him his third Oscar. He did not attend<\/a> the awards as he was in Ukraine<\/a> with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n

His previous Oscars were for playing the gay activist Harvey Milk in Gus Van Sant\u2019s Milk and for his role in crime drama Mystic River.<\/p>\n

Cooper, who has received 12 Oscar nominations, was last seen in Is This Thing On?<\/a>, a comedy he also directed. He will next be heard in Bong Joon-ho\u2019s animated adventure Ally alongside Ayo Edebiri, and will also write, direct and star in an Ocean\u2019s Eleven prequel with Margot Robbie.<\/p>\n

The events of January 6 are also believed to be loosely covered in Aaron Sorkin\u2019s upcoming Facebook sequel The Social Reckoning<\/a>, which examines social media\u2019s role in the events.<\/p>\n
