The kilt was in a light-colored suitcase, last seen at the 175th Street Station, on a platform for A trains headed for Penn Station, between 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Monday, according to Ferguson\u2019s Instagram post.<\/p>\n
Ferguson, 22, wore the kilt when he set off in February on a cross-country walk to raise money for mental health services in his homeland and to show support for Scotland\u2019s first World Cup match in 28 years.<\/p>\n
Scotland beat Haiti, 1-0, Saturday at Boston Stadium in Foxborough. The Scots next play Morocco at the stadium on Friday. <\/p>\n
The kilt is rare; there were only two made in the world, Ferguson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis kilt has a very distinguishable rip in it from wearing all my stars and stuff like that and don\u2019t have lots of holes [from] the kilt pins,\u201d Ferguson said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s bogging because I was wearing it so much. So, yeah, I don\u2019t think that I\u2019m ever, ever going to find the kilt.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, nearly 24 hours after his post, the kilt was still missing. In the several thousand comments on the post, many people tagged @nycmayor and the city\u2019s police and fire departments. <\/p>\n
One commenter posted: \u201cCitizens of the greater Boston area we must go to NYC and find that kilt! We must [protect] the kilt and the Scots!\u201d<\/p>\n
Ferguson said in his Monday post that he doesn\u2019t expect to be reunited with his kilt.<\/p>\n
\u201cI basically have said goodbye to it in my head now, but yeah, my kilt belongs to the USA now. I think there\u2019s maybe something a bit poetic about that, but who knows, maybe social media will do its thing and some New Yorker will find that kilt and be able to return it one day,\u201d Ferguson said.<\/p>\n
