My Bloody Valentine<\/a>\u2018s Kevin Shields reunited with Primal Scream<\/a> this week, joining them on stage in Ireland.<\/p>\n

Shields was a semi-permanent member of the Scottish indie rock band between 1998 and 2006 \u2013 helping shift them towards a heavier electronic-industrial sound on albums including 2000\u2019s \u2018XTRMNTR\u2019 and 2002\u2019s \u2018Evil Heat\u2019 (2002).<\/p>\n

His distinctive mixing, production style and guitar sound were first introduced on the track \u2018If They Move, Kill \u2018Em\u2019 from fifth album \u2018Vanishing Point\u2019, and he was a member of the touring line-up throughout 2005, including for their slot at Glastonbury<\/a> that year.<\/p>\n

While his main stint with the group ended in the mid \u201800s, Shields did collaborate with Bobby Gillespie<\/a> and co. one more time on their nine-minute lead single \u20182013\u2019, which featured on Primal Scream\u2019s 10th album \u2018More Light<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Now, Shields has taken to the stage with Primal Scream again, joining them as a surprise guest for their show at Beyond The Pale festival in Ireland.<\/p>\n

Held at the Glendalough Estate in County Wicklow on Saturday (June 13), Shields took to the stage midway through the set, joining for renditions of \u2018Accelerator\u2019 and \u2018Shoot Speed\/Kill Light\u2019 \u2013 which both featured on \u2018XTRMNTR\u2019.<\/p>\n

He joined the Scottish indie heroes again at the end of their 12-song set, helping them perform \u2018Rocks\u2019 \u2013 their Top 10 track which was the lead single for their 1994 fourth studio album \u2018Give Out But Don\u2019t Give Up\u2019.<\/p>\n

Earlier this spring, Primal Scream announced a full UK anniversary tour to celebrate over 25 years of \u2018XTRMNTR\u2019<\/a>, and those shows will see them play that sixth studio album in its entirety.<\/p>\n

Dates kick off in Glasgow in September, and come following the band holding a 25th anniversary performance of the record at London\u2019s Roundhouse<\/a> back in December. Visit here<\/a> for tickets.<\/p>\n

As well as the live shows, Bobby Gillsepie and co. are also releasing a \u2018The Bunker Trilogy\u2019 \u2013 a special collection of expanded reissues of some of the band\u2019s most beloved and experimental albums, namely \u2018Vanishing Point\u2019, \u2018XTRMNTR\u2019 and \u2018Evil Heat\u2019.<\/p>\n

Upon the original release of \u2018XTRMNTR\u2019, NME rated the album 9\/10 and wrote<\/a>: \u201c The music scene\u2019s not so hot, either. That we could do with a fully plugged-in, turned-on, fucked-off Primal Scream at this point is hardly front-page news; for \u2018Exterminator\u2019 to pulverise the senses with quite such righteous, incendiary beauty most definitely is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The album went on to be named by NME as the second-best record of 2000<\/a>, picked up the Best Album award at the 2001 NME Awards<\/a>, and later landed at Number Three in our Albums of the Decade list<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Primal Scream\u2019s last release was 2024\u2019s acclaimed album \u2018Come Ahead<\/a>\u2018.<\/p>\n

For My Bloody Valentine, the shoegaze pioneers played as part of\u00a0Robert Smith\u2019s<\/a> Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at Royal Albert Hall<\/a> earlier this year \u2013 joining the likes of Garbage<\/a>,\u00a0Wolf Alice<\/a>,\u00a0Manic Street Preachers<\/a>,\u00a0Chvrches<\/a>, and more on the bill.<\/p>\n
