Cox says that creatine is so highly-regarded in the fitness world because it\u2019s considered one of the most effective and safest supplements out there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver 30 years of <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1186\/s12970-021-00412-w\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1186\/s12970-021-00412-w&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1186\/s12970-021-00412-w\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">research<\/a> and more than 500 studies have examined creatine from various angles, finding that creatine supplementation increases the amount of creatine in muscles, helping to generate more energy during exercise, thereby boosting enhance athletic performance in short-duration activities, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/how-to-tailor-a-weightlifting-program-to-your-goals\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">weightlifting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/run-faster\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sprinting<\/a>, and similar sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Creatine benefits<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to creatine\u2019s role in boosting your exercise plan, Carson calls says its efficacy \u201csubstantial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anaerobic power<br \/>A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30935142\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">meta analysis<\/a> of creatine looked at multiple studies and found that taking it increased anaerobic power in sports like football.<\/p>\n<p>Strength<br \/>A number of <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/24576864\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">studies<\/a> found that creatine improves strength and muscle mass when combined with resistance training.<\/p>\n<p>Brain power<br \/>\u201cEmerging research demonstrates a potential impact on cognitive function and brain health,\u201d Carson adds, pointing to a <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/nutrition\/articles\/10.3389\/fnut.2024.1424972\/full\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/nutrition\/articles\/10.3389\/fnut.2024.1424972\/full&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/nutrition\/articles\/10.3389\/fnut.2024.1424972\/full\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2024 systematic review<\/a> which found that creatine supplementation improved performance on tasks requiring memory and speed of information processing.<\/p>\n<p>Mood<br \/>Carson says a 2019 study titled <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30086660\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u2018Beyond muscle\u2019<\/a> provide some evidence that creatine can reduce the symptoms of brain injuries, depression, and anxiety\u2014although further research is required.<\/p>\n<p>Should you take creatine?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCreatine can be beneficial for almost everyone, but it\u2019s not essential for everyone!\u201d says Cox, who recommends it to athletes, vegetarians, and vegans who may have trouble sourcing amino acids from food, and older adults in need of a little boost.
