Dublin City Council’s bin bag ban isn’t working, according to some local businesses.<\/p>\n
It prohibits businesses from placing plastic bags on footpaths, instead asking them to bring rubbish to waste compactors or have it collected by a waste management company.<\/p>\n
Companies are reporting problems such as full compactors, faulty fobs and the cost of their waste disposal doubling.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is experiencing very real teething problems,\u201d said Dublin Town CEO, Richard Guiney.<\/p>\n
\u201cBusinesses are reporting major confusion with waste providers and have experienced delays or difficulties in getting required fobs for compactors.<\/p>\n
\u201cCompactors have been found to be not working properly on occasion, leading to businesses having to haul waste bags back to premises which do not have storage facilities for waste.<\/p>\n
\u201cBusinesses have also found planned waste collections from their premises have not taken place, again leaving businesses with a pile up of waste.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is simply unacceptable, and greater engagement is required.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpper-storey businesses, and those with a lack of storage, are finding it difficult to manage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe bin bag ban is a wonderful idea, but it is not currently working as it should.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore needs to be done by waste collectors, and Dublin City Council, working with the local business community, to come up with practical solutions to ensure City centre streets are free of bin bags.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dublin City Council’s bin bag ban isn’t working, according to some local businesses.
