Palestine football chiefs have insisted they will not be party to alleged “sportswashing” amid an ongoing debate over Israel’s continued participation in international competitions – including Israel’s Nations League clash with the Republic of Ireland in October.<\/p>\n

At an FAI board of directors meeting last week, it was confirmed that Ireland’s ‘home’ match against the Israelis would take place at a yet to be confirmed neutral ground on 4 October<\/a> – and the Palestinian FA has moved to clarify its position.<\/p>\n

While reiterating its “deep appreciation” of the support it has received from its counterparts in Ireland and the Irish people in general, a PFA statement read: “The PFA rejects any characterisation that could be interpreted as providing political or moral cover for Israel\u2019s continued participation in international football while these grave violations persist.<\/p>\n

“The PFA would not, and will not, be party to any effort that normalises these realities or contributes to the sportswashing of crimes committed against the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n

“Our struggle has always been directed toward ensuring that international football applies its own rules consistently and without exception. We will therefore continue to work through legitimate sporting and legal mechanisms to defend the rights of Palestinian athletes, protect Palestinian football, and seek accountability in accordance with FIFA regulations, the principles of the Olympic Charter, and the values that sport strives to uphold.”<\/p>\n
