The ban on the use of scramblers in public places after the tragic death of 16-year-old Grace Lynch<\/a> in Dublin earlier this year hasn’t done much to curb the amount of them driving illegally on roads in Cork city and county.<\/p>\n One TD has said that one of the best solutions to this issue is to designate spaces for people to ride scramblers. Thomas Gould, Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Cork North-Central<\/a>, said: “Three times I rang the Gardai on Monday night because of scramblers. The new law, following the tragic passing of Grace Lynch, is a step forward but we need resources and action with it.<\/p>\n “Young people on the northside should have somewhere to ride scramblers. Everyone should feel safe. The government cannot wash their hands of the issue of scramblers because they\u2019ve passed one law. We need action.”<\/p>\n Speaking in the Dail<\/a> today, Deputy Gould said “Give local authorities funding to put in tracks or tails. Right now there’s nowhere for them to go, but what must happen immediately is scramblers must be stopped, because I fear there could be another tragedy.”<\/p>\n Sinn Fein’s Thomas Gould TD(Image: Gareth Chaney\/Collins)<\/p>\n This isn’t Deputy Gould’s first time calling for the government to evaluate its approach to tackling the issue of dangerous illegal scramblers on Cork roads. Earlier this year, he called for an initiative to be introduced on Leeside<\/a>, where young riders can learn responsibility and road safety without endangering others and ruining green spaces.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, a group of scrambler riders were filmed<\/a> popping wheelies and speeding down the N40 near Douglas<\/a> on high-powered electric bikes or ‘e-scramblers’, just a few feet from fast-moving traffic on Cork’s businest road.<\/p>\n![\"Sinn](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1_CC-SINN-FEIN-_1290506431.jpg\")
