{"id":509190,"date":"2026-06-20T06:45:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T06:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/509190\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T06:45:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T06:45:17","slug":"dublin-riots-looter-20-was-a-follower-court-hears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/509190\/","title":{"rendered":"Dublin riots looter (20) was a &#8216;follower&#8217;, court hears"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man who looted three shops during the Dublin riots was a \u201cfollower\u201d who took items including Nike runners, the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.<\/p>\n<p>Faraj Odukoya (20) of Brega, Hamlet Lane, Balbriggan, Co Dublin, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary on November 23rd, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Garda Aoife Farrelly told Caroline Latham, prosecuting, that Odukoya was not involved in the initial breach of Lifestyle Sports on Mary Street and two Footlocker stores on Mary Street and O\u2019Connell Street, but was one of those who entered the shops after and took items.<\/p>\n<p>The court was told that garda\u00ed could not give an exact value for the items taken by Odukoya, but he was seen at one point with two boxes of Nike runners under his arm. He was in the shops for around five to six minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The total loss to Footlocker O\u2019Connell Street was over \u20ac435,200, while the Mary Street store\u2019s losses were approximately \u20ac323,000, and the Lifestyle Sports shop had a total loss of \u20ac313,990.<\/p>\n<p>Odukoya was identified by garda\u00ed from CCTV during the investigation in 2025.
