Paris could hit 41C by Wednesday – extreme heat warning for Disneyland<\/p>\n

Much of Europe is on alert for days of extreme heat – with temperatures in parts of Spain and France set to soar towards 40C and warnings going out to people to protect themselves.<\/p>\n

South East England, central and southern France, Spain, Portugal and regions of Germany could see record-breaking heatwave conditions over the coming week with fears for vulnerable people and those who cannot protect themselves from extreme heat linked to climate change.<\/p>\n

Here in Ireland, we will see nothing like the 36C highs they are preparing for in parts of England – or the possible 40C that could hit Paris. But we are at the start of much dryer, warmer and settled weather than we have seen in some time, with temps to jump into the mid to high 20s through the week.<\/p>\n

We can expect very little rain and plenty of sunshine as we go through this weekend, even if it won’t be very warm with daytime temps in the low 20s today and tomorrow. It will be cool overnight.<\/p>\n

The full forecast from Met \u00c9ireann this morning for Munster looks like:<\/p>\n

TODAY – Saturday 20th June<\/p>\n

A pleasant summer’s day with long spells of sunshine – just the slight chance of a light shower to begin. Top temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees, warmest further east, in just light westerly or variable breezes.<\/p>\n

TONIGHT<\/p>\n

Tonight will be dry and calm with clear spells. Patches of mist and fog will form. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.<\/p>\n

TOMORROW – Sunday 21st June<\/p>\n

Sunday will be rather warm with long spells of sunshine, turning hazy later. Top temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees, best values further west, in a mostly light easterly breeze.<\/p>\n

National Outlook<\/p>\n

Overview: Generally dry into the new week with a warming trend. Some very warm or even hot days to come. A reminder to be sun-smart and stay safe if heading to the coast and waterways.<\/p>\n

Sunday night: Dry and calm with clear spells. Noticeably mild with lowest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.<\/p>\n

Monday: Warm and mostly sunny. However, some thundery showers may feed into southeast areas. Top temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees in just light southerly breezes.<\/p>\n

Monday night: Dry with clear spells and just light southwest breezes. Another very mild night with temperatures not falling below 12 to 16 degrees.<\/p>\n

Tuesday: A little cloudier and possibly cooler across west and northwest counties with scattered light showers. Mostly dry, warm and fairly sunny elsewhere though. Top temperatures will range 18 to 25 degrees, warmest for east and southeast counties, with no more than moderate westerly winds.<\/p>\n

Wednesday: Generally dry and warm or very warm with sunny spells and just isolated light showers. Top temperatures will generally range from the low to mid 20s. A fraction cooler where onshore breezes set in however.<\/p>\n

Thursday and Friday: Conditions look set to remain dry and settled with the potential for very warm if not hot weather as a continental airmass moves in across Ireland. Temperatures could climb into the high 20s by day with sultry nights also.<\/p>\n
