SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) \u2014 The police standoff near Shelbyville ended with a 31-year-old man being taken into custody for aggravated domestic battery.<\/p>\n
Sheriff Brian McReynolds told WCIA that the standoff ended at approximately 3:30 p.m. 31-year-old Travis Hennings was taken into custody and is being evaluated at a hospital; he may remain there if hospital staff decide to place him on a psych hold.<\/p>\n
McReynolds said the situation started around 8:45 a.m. when Hennings\u2019 mother called 911.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Hennings] had pointed a firearm at a member of the household and was in a mental health crisis,\u201d McReynolds said. \u201c[Hennings\u2019 mother] had left the residence, however there was the suspect there, plus another individual on scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
Springfield man accused of aggravated battery in weekend stabbing <\/a><\/p>\n The other individual turned out to be Hennings\u2019 father, and when he was able to get out of the house, he had been battered and was bleeding from the head.<\/p>\n \u201cWe got him to the hospital and turned to communicate with Travis to get him to turn himself in,\u201d McReynolds said.<\/p>\n The standoff continued into the afternoon. Hennings was talked down and surrendered to law enforcement around 3:30 p.m., McReynolds said.<\/p>\n The Shelby County Sheriff\u2019s Office was assisted at the scene by the Illinois State Police\u2019s tactical teams and crisis negotiators.<\/p>\n County Road 1800 East, which was closed to traffic as the standoff continued, has since reopened.<\/p>\n Update at 2:45 p.m.<\/p>\n SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) \u2014 The \u201cemergency situation\u201d unfolding near Shelbyville is a standoff between police and a suspect.<\/p>\n A WCIA reporter confirmed at the scene that police are outside a home on County Road 1800 East and that police are calling for someone to come out of the home.<\/p>\n The scene is still active at this time.<\/p>\n SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) \u2014 Shelby County\u2019s 1800 East is currently closed south of Shelbyville due to an \u201cemergency situation.\u201d<\/p>\n The Shelby County Emergency Management Agency posted on Facebook<\/a> around 10:30 a.m. that the Shelby County Sheriff\u2019s Office requested an emergency alert be published regarding this situation. Details are limited, with the EMA saying only that the road is closed and that drivers should seek an alternate route.<\/p>\n
