A book of condolence will be open tomorrow at the Letterkenny school (St Eunan’s College)<\/p>\nThe event was cancelled after Tadhg Callaghan Carter, 15, was killed and two others were injured at location 15 on special stage 12 Gartan.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed say that shortly before 5pm, they and other emergency services were alerted after a number of onlookers were injured \u201cin an incident involving a participating car\u201d at Trentagh, near Kilmacrennan.<\/p>\n
Tadhg was taken by ambulance from the scene to Letterkenny University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
Two other spectators are receiving hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed said the local coroner has been notified, a post-mortem examination will be arranged and that the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.<\/p>\n
It is understood the crash happened when a competing car left the road at a left-hand bend.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Saturday, Motorsport Ireland and Donegal Motor Club said they cancelled the remainder of the event \u201cas a mark of respect\u201d.<\/p>\n
They said they were \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d by what had happened and expressed \u201cdeepest sympathies to the family of the deceased and ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time\u201d.<\/p>\n

Motorsport Ireland said that as the country\u2019s governing body for four-wheeled motorsport, it, along with Garda\u00ed, has begun \u201ca full investigation into the circumstances of the accident\u201d.<\/p>\n
Both the organisation and the Garda\u00ed say they are aware video footage of the accident is circulating on social media and have asked the public not to share it.<\/p>\n
The three-day event bills itself as \u201cone of the toughest rally challenges there is for drivers and teams\u201d.<\/p>\n
Participants compete in 20 stages around the north-west coast of the county.<\/p>\n
