{"id":514067,"date":"2026-06-23T09:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T09:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/514067\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T09:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T09:08:11","slug":"woman-appears-in-court-accused-of-98-counts-of-fraud-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/514067\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman appears in court accused of 98 counts of fraud \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">A woman accused of 98 counts of fraud against a large number of complainants, who had a bench warrant issued against her last week, appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\">Dublin<\/a> Circuit Criminal Court on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Denise O\u2019Brien (42) of Fels Point, Dan Spring Road, Tralee, Co <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kerry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kerry\/\">Kerry<\/a>, is accused of 98 counts under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, including deception, forgery, and using a false instrument. She has not yet entered a plea. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Oisin Clarke, defending, told the court his client did not appear in court last Monday because she thought the date was June 18th and not June 15th last. Counsel said his client had evidence of a rail ticket she purchased for June 18th. Clarke said O\u2019Brien was also previously in hospital. He asked the judge to readmit her to bail. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Judge Orla Crowe gave O\u2019Brien an arraignment date of November 16th next, when the accused is due to enter a plea. The judge noted O\u2019Brien had a record of non-attendance but agreed to readmit her to bail on her own bond of \u20ac100. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">She is to sign on daily at a local Garda station and provide her phone number.
