AIRTEL Money and KCB Bank are now keen to depeen financial serives in Kenya, in a partnership that could shake the mobile money landscape in the country.<\/p>\n
This is after the two entered into an agreement that anables\u00a0Airtel Money customers to deposit and withdraw
\ncash at the over 22,000 KCB Agents across the country, in the latest\u00a0interoperability\u00a0move in the market.<\/p>\n
The collaboration is expected to deepen
\nfinancial inclusion by supporting the ongoing efforts by industry stakeholders
\nto promote interoperability across Kenya\u2019s financial sector, reducing barriers
\nto financial access, enhancing customer experience and strengthening the
\ncountry’s digital financial ecosystem.<\/p>\n
According to Airtel Money Kenya managing director Anne Kinuthia-Otieno,\u00a0 the
\ncollaboration reflects Airtel Money’s commitment to making financial services
\nmore accessible and convenient for customers across the country.<\/p>\n
“By opening access to KCB’s extensive
\nagent network, we are bringing Airtel Money services closer to more Kenyans and
\nmaking it easier for customers to deposit and withdraw money wherever they are.
\nAs Airtel Money continues to grow, partnerships such as this help us expand
\naccess to financial services while supporting the country’s financial inclusion
\nagenda,” she said.<\/p>\n
KCB Bank Kenya managing director Annastacia Kimtai noted that the partnership reflects the bank\u2019s commitment to
\nleveraging innovation and collaboration to create a more inclusive and
\ninterconnected financial services landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are doing is recognising the fact
\nthat diverse and interconnected opportunities are still core to the mobile money
\nvalue proposition. Reaching critical mass will require mobile money ecosystems
\nto become more dynamic and productive and such a move will enable mobile money
\nservices to take root, proliferate, and scale up,”\u00a0Kimtai\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
“It is against this background
\nthat we are offering our agency network for more Kenyans to strengthen mobile
\nmoney ecosystems and help the industry mature fully.”<\/p>\n
Customers will require a valid national
\nidentification document and a registered Airtel Money account to access the
\nservice. Deposits will be free, while standard withdrawal charges will apply.<\/p>\n
KCB\u2019s non-branch solutions, including its
\nagency banking network, continued to play a pivotal role in driving customer
\nconvenience, accessibility, and operational efficiency. <\/p>\n
Notably, the deal comes
\nas KCB continues to bolster its agency banking capabilities through the
\nacquisition of Riverbank Solutions by bringing on board its robust social
\npayments and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.<\/p>\n
As a result, the
\nbank has deepened its digital channels offerings with 99 per cent of transactions being
