\n\tThe 1975 Indian cinema landmark \u201cSholay<\/a>\u201d will make its \u201cFilms in Concert\u201d world premiere at London\u2019s Royal Albert Hall<\/a> on Oct. 10, with Melvin Tay conducting the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performing R. D. Burman\u2019s score live to screen. <\/p>\n

\n\tSippy Films and esk are producing the event.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe screening will present \u201cSholay: The Final Cut,\u201d a recently restored 4K version<\/a> of Ramesh Sippy\u2019s film that reinstates footage cut by the Indian censor board in 1975. The print will be projected in Hindi with English subtitles onto a giant HD screen in the Hall\u2019s auditorium. According to Sippy Films, the restored version will be available theatrically for only a limited window.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are truly excited to partner with esk to bring \u2018Sholay\u2019 to audiences in this novel format,\u201d said Shehzad Sippy, head of Sippy Films. \u201cThe screening will feature \u2018Sholay: The Final Cut,\u2019 the recently restored 4K version of the film with its original cut that had been banned by the Indian censor board in 1975.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film follows two petty criminals, Jai (Amitabh Bachchan<\/a>) and Veeru (Dharmendra<\/a>), who are hired by a retired, disabled police officer, Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), to capture the bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), who massacred his family.<\/p>\n

\n\tMatt Todd, director of programming at the Royal Albert Hall, said: \u201c\u2018Sholay\u2019 is an undisputed Bollywood classic paired with an impeccable score, so to host its \u2018Films in Concert\u2019 world premiere here at the Hall is incredibly exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSholay\u201d consistently tops critical rankings of Indian cinema \u2013 named \u201cFilm of the Millennium\u201d by BBC India in 1999, placed in the British Film Institute\u2019s top 10 Indian films of all time in 2002, and ranked first on Time Out\u2019s \u201c100 Best Bollywood Movies\u201d list in 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\tSamuel Weatherstone, CEO and co-founder of esk, said: \u201cWe are thrilled to be working with Sippy Films to bring their restored 4K version of \u2018Sholay: The Final Cut\u2019 to audiences in this immersive way for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe event follows last year\u2019s \u201cRRR in Concert\u201d at the Hall, which featured appearances by Ram Charan, N.T.R., director S. S. Rajamouli and composer M. M. Keeravani.
