When one takes a glance at his work spanning decades, there exists a collection of titles that are both visually magnificent and genre-defining. His titles seamlessly transition between historical epics such as Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and Gladiator II, to horror and even science fiction. In sci-fi, Scott is credited with directing the 1979 film Alien, which launched the franchise as we know it.

Following in the footsteps of big sci-fi franchises like Star Trek, Stargate, and Star Wars, Alien leveraged on television’s expansive canvas to broaden its myth in 2025 as Alien: Earth came to the forefront. As the iconic sci-fi horror franchise stepped into a bold new era, Noah Hawley was brought on as creator, with original Alien director Scott serving as executive producer. Alien: Earth successfully shifted the franchise from deep space to Earth, in a creative move that paid off. Season 1 holds a near-flawless 94% critics’ score, impressing many, including Collider’s Ross Bonaime, who, in his review, praised the series for giving viewers “the horror of Alien” while deepening the ideas from previous installments in just 8 episodes.

Despite initial hesitation, FX came to a decision after a few months, ultimately renewing Alien: Earth for Season 2 lastNovember. In a conversation with Empire Magazine, the actor revealed that the coming chapter of Hawley and FX’s hit sci-fi horror series will take the story in an interesting yet odd direction. Olyphant told fans to brace as Season 2 of Alien: Earth is “gonna get weird” as compared to the first season. While expertly sidestepping spoilers, the actor revealed that having read the six episodes of the new season, we are about to enjoy “the best of Noah Hawley,” the series creator.

Collider Exclusive · Sci-Fi Survival Quiz
Which Sci-Fi World Would You Survive?
The Matrix · Mad Max · Blade Runner · Dune · Star Wars

        Five universes.
