\n\tAfter years of speculation, Reese Witherspoon<\/a> has confirmed that the third season of Big Little Lies is officially \u201cin process.\u201d The actress and producer appeared on The Tonight Show<\/a> to discuss the 25th anniversary of Legally Blonde, and took the opportunity to hint at what\u2019s to come from new episodes based on Liane Moriarty\u2019s writing. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is in process for sure,\u201d Witherspoon told host Jimmy Fallon<\/a> after some prompting. \u201cThere is a new book that comes out in September and so you\u2019ll see where we\u2019re at. And we are making the TV based on that book. I don\u2019t want to say the wrong thing, but I think it\u2019s called Big Little Truths? One Giant Lie? Giant Big Lies?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first season of Big Little Lies premiered in 2017. It starred Witherspoon alongside Nicole Kidman<\/a>, Shailene Woodley<\/a>, Alexander Skarsgard, Adam Scott, Laura Dern, and Zoe Kravitz. A second season followed in 2019 with the addition of Meryl Streep based on a a novella Moriarty wrote as a template for the script. <\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, Witherspoon told USA Today the team<\/a> was \u201cin early talks\u201d about an additional season. \u201cThe children have grown up, they\u2019re now teenagers, it\u2019s been about 10 years,\u201d she noted of the characters. \u201cAs you can imagine, parenting those age children\u2019s got its sets of challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWoodley also recently hinted at a return. \u201cWhat I know about it is that supposedly it is happening,\u201d she told Deadline<\/a>. \u201cThat is what I know.\u201d She noted of the cast, \u201cI love my girls. That\u2019s what makes it so special. We\u2019re each other\u2019s people. We love each other and we\u2019re here for each other and, also, it\u2019s a blast to play these characters. I\u2019m really excited about the third season, and for the opportunity that might exist in exploring who these ladies are 10 years later. We\u2019re all 10 years older. The children are all 10 years older. They\u2019re not really children anymore and most of them are adults now. So the prospect of that is very cool.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tMoriarty\u2019s new novel, a sequel to 2014 Big Little Lies, is titled Big Little Truths. It will be released in the U.S. on Aug. 25.
