Shelbourne have today confirmed the departure of Joey O’Brien from his role as head coach after a little over 12 months in the job.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old, who represented the Republic of Ireland five times, was appointed interim coach following Damien Duff’s departure last June, before becoming the permanent manager the following month.<\/p>\n

The Dubliner initially arrived at the club as an assistant manager in the winter of 2021, helping Shels to League of Ireland glory in 2024. He guided the Reds to the league phase of the UEFA Conference League and a third place finish in the Premier Division last year.<\/p>\n

Shels currently sit in fifth place in the league, seven points off third place Bohemians in the race for the European spots. Their shaky season has seen them pick up just seven wins from their 22 games played so far.<\/p>\n

The news comes following their 3-0 home loss to Bohs on Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In an official statement released today, the club thanked O’Brien for, “the huge contribution he has made to the club” while also wishing him “the very best for his future endeavours.”<\/p>\n

The club’s Under-20s head coach Lorcan Fitzgerald will take interim charge of the team.
