A 65-year-old woman has been charged with withholding information during a murder investigation.<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Brian Barron charged Janice Long, of 35 St Michael\u2019s Close, Mahon, Cork, with the offence, which was allegedly committed during the investigation into the murder of 47-year-old Kieran Quilligan.<\/p>\n
Mr Quilligan\u2019s skeletal remains were found in East Cork in February 2024 after he went missing in Cork city on September 1, 2023.<\/p>\n
The charge of withholding information brought against the 65-year-old woman relates to a date unknown between September 1, 2023, and February 2, 2024.<\/p>\n
The particulars of the charge state that at an unknown location within the State, she did fail, without reasonable excuse, to disclose as soon as was practicable to a member of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na information which she knew or believed might be of material assistance in securing the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of any person for a serious offence, contrary to the Offences Against the State Act.<\/p>\n
Sergeant John Dineen said the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial by indictment.<\/p>\n
Judge Valerie Corcoran directed that the prosecution disclose evidence to the defendant by July 27 so that she could decide on entering a signed plea of guilty or contesting the case, which would necessitate a book of evidence.<\/p>\n
