There\u2019s a moral quandary for Coronation Street’s Nick Tilsley next week when he\u2019s forced to lie to his son Sam Blakeman in a bid to protect his son\u2019s fragile mental wellbeing<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Although Sam is safe for now and being treated in a professional facility, he\u2019s stressing about Megan Walsh’s trial<\/a> for grooming underage schoolboy Will Driscoll and what will happen if she escapes justice.<\/p>\n

Sam is convinced that if the worst happens, and Megan is allowed to go free, she will want to take revenge on him. Nick is worried sick to see Sam\u2019s distress and wants to do whatever he can to protect him. That\u2019s when he makes the big decision to tell a lie.
<\/p>\n

“Megan\u2019s trial is full of complexities and complications, but Nick\u2019s job is very simple \u2013 he needs to protect Sam\u2019s mental health,” explains our Corrie informant.<\/p>\n

“Faced with a choice of giving him the full story about what\u2019s transpiring in court, Nick decides to lie that everything has gone to plan. In his mind, this is the only way to prevent Sam from spiralling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nobody could blame Nick for coming to the decision to tell a white lie to spare Sam more stress.<\/p>\n

However, after what he\u2019s been through in psychosis \u2013 and Nick fibbing to gain his son\u2019s trust, only to take him to the facility \u2013 Sam has been in situations where he can\u2019t trust what is true or false.<\/p>\n

And during his hallucinations, an imaginary Roy Cropper <\/a>was telling him all kinds of lies about what was happening and trying to encourage him to harm Will. So, as he recovers, it\u2019s vitally important that Sam can trust those around him to tell the truth.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019s done this for all the right reasons, but Nick might live to regret not being honest with Sam,” says our source. “For too long, Sam hasn\u2019t felt able to be honest with the people who love him. Let\u2019s hope Nick\u2019s decision doesn\u2019t damage the trust between them\u2026”<\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
