{"id":519363,"date":"2026-06-26T11:14:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T11:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/519363\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T11:14:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T11:14:16","slug":"new-uv-artwork-in-irish-passport-with-increased-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/519363\/","title":{"rendered":"New UV artwork in Irish passport with increased security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New security features and imagery for Ireland\u2019s next-generation passport have been launched.<\/p>\n<p>The newly designed passport, launched on Friday by Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee, is described by the Government as \u201cone of the world\u2019s most advanced travel documents\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Artwork in the new passport is inspired by Ireland\u2019s heritage, history and culture, with designs chosen by the public as part of a nationwide consultation involving 15,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish wolfhound emerged as a favourite and features prominently on the opening page, followed by a \u201cjourney through the Irish year, celebrating the habitats, wildlife and seasonal rhythms that have influenced life on the island for generations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The design also draws inspiration from Ireland\u2019s \u201crich artistic and archaeological heritage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"427\" width=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/new-uv-artwork-in-irish-passport-with-increased-security.jpg\" alt=\"Minister Helen McEntee with Oisin the wolfhound and a new passport\" data-title=\"New Irish passport\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Media\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Media\" data-credit=\"Department of Foreign Affairs\" data-usage-terms=\"PICTURE DESK USE ONLY. NO SALES HANDOUT\"\/>Minister Helen McEntee with Ois\u00edn the wolfhound and a new passport (Department of Foreign Affairs\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>The ancient carved spirals of Newgrange influenced many of the passport\u2019s symbolic motifs and security patterns.<\/p>\n<p>There is also Celtic knotwork, historic craftsmanship, hand-drawn illustrations and seasonal poetry.<\/p>\n<p>Native flora and fauna appear, including the red fox, puffin, and swallow.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Foreign Affairs said the passport maintains the highest international standards of document security and uses environmentally friendly security inks and new production methods.<\/p>\n<p>Security features include tactile raised ink, embossing, metallic ink, tricolour thread, hidden illustrations, and UV security ink.<\/p>\n<p>    Together with Irish companies and artists, we have created a travel document that is both technically outstanding and unmistakably Irish<\/p>\n<p>            Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee<\/p>\n<p>The main \u201csophisticated polycarbonate biometric data page\u201d also has a transparent window, raised gold ink, temperature-changing ink and a hologram.<\/p>\n<p>McEntee said the document gives Irish citizens visa-free access to 186 countries.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cIt combines some of the world\u2019s most advanced security technology with a design that proudly reflects who we are as a nation, our heritage, creativity and natural beauty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether with Irish companies and artists, we have created a travel document that is both technically outstanding and unmistakably Irish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new passport is available from Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"New security features and imagery for Ireland\u2019s next-generation passport have been launched.
