For the people of Carrigaline, the N28 is a vital link that connects them directly to Cork city<\/a> and many surrounding areas. However, next month, a section of the busy road will be closed to allow essential works on the M28 project to take place.<\/p>\n

The road<\/a> will be closed between Rochestown and the Carr’s Hill Interchange, with separate diversion routes being put in place for cars and heavy goods vehicles. Maryborough Hill Road will also be subject to temporary closures across the weekend during key stages of the works.<\/p>\n

Locals have been advised to follow the listed diversions, allow for additional travel<\/a> time and drive with care throughout the duration of the works. The closure will take effect at 8 pm on Monday, July 24, and continue until 5 am on Monday, July 27.<\/p>\n

While the diversions for cars are fairly manageable, with those approaching from the city direction rejoining the N28 near Carr’s Hill, the diversions for HGVs are much more severe. The route for heavy vehicles will see them travel via Cork Airport Road, Fivemilebridge, Ballygarvan and then through the heart of Carrigaligne before rejoining the N28 via the Shannonpark Roundabout.<\/p>\n

This means that residents can expect to see an influx of HGVs over that weekend, as vehicles coming to and from Ringaskiddy will need to route through the town rather than bypass it via the N28.<\/p>\n

During the works, a temporary bridge will be installed beside the existing Maryborough Bridge, which is scheduled for demolition and replacement over the next 9 to 12 months.<\/p>\n

Local councillor Jack White said: “If you\u2019re travelling in the area that weekend, please plan your journey in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow the signed diversion routes.<\/p>\n

“This is a significant milestone in the delivery of the M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy Project, which will bring long-term improvements to connectivity and safety for Cork.”<\/p>\n
