The Irish Coast Guard and RNLI have successfully completed an operation to recover a body from the shoreline in North Clare this afternoon.<\/p>\n
The body was located at the base of the Cliffs of Moher on Friday evening by a Coast Guard drone team from Doolin. The body has not been formally identified.<\/p>\n
The Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat was requested to assist Doolin Coast Guard with the recovery operation however that effort had to be abandoned due to deteriorating weather conditions last night.<\/p>\n
Early today, RNLI and Irish Coast Guard boat crews returned to the scene and successfully recovered a body in an operation that lasted several hours and carried out in difficult conditions.<\/p>\n
The body was recovered to the RNLI lifeboat and transported back to Doolin Pier where Coast Guard personnel and Garda\u00ed were standing by.<\/p>\n
The body was later removed to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination will be carried out. It\u2019s understood however that the death is being treated as a personal tragedy.<\/p>\n
A Garda spokesperson confirmed: \u201cGarda\u00ed and the Coast Guard were alerted after the body of an adult male was recovered on the coastline at the Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare at around 1:30pm today, 27th June 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n
The deceased was brought to shore and removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick. The local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem will be arranged.
