Doug Goldstein, the longtime former manager of\u00a0Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/a>, has died at the age of 65.<\/p>\n

The news was announced by Brandon Weissler, host of the Guns N\u2019 Roses podcast Appetite For Distortion, on Thursday (June 25). No cause of death has been shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoug was much more than a former Guns N\u2019 Roses manager,\u201d Weissler told\u00a0Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a>. \u201cHe was a friendly ear, a supportive voice and a sensitive man. You don\u2019t survive 17 years with Axl Rose<\/a>\u00a0by accident. In many ways, he saved Axl\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoug cared deeply about his friends, family, and all GN\u2019R fans. He struggled in life, but never gave up,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Former Guns N\u2019 Roses co-manager Alan Niven, who worked alongside Goldstein before the pair later fell out, also paid tribute, saying: \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0very sad. 65 is not old. I will be lighting a candle for him tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goldstein first entered the Guns N\u2019 Roses orbit\u00a0around the release of their landmark 1987 debut\u00a0album\u00a0\u2018Appetite\u00a0For\u00a0Destruction\u2019, initially working as a tour manager before becoming co-manager with Niven.<\/p>\n

Before working with Guns N\u2019 Roses,\u00a0Goldstein\u00a0had worked in security for acts including Van Halen<\/a>,\u00a0Heart\u00a0<\/a>and Black Sabbath<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Goldstein became Guns N\u2019\u00a0Roses\u2019\u00a0manager in 1991 after Niven\u2019s departure, just as the band were entering one of their\u00a0most commercially successful\u00a0periods, with the releases of\u00a0\u2018Use Your Illusion I\u2019 and \u2018Use Your Illusion II\u2019.<\/p>\n

Goldstein remained close to Rose throughout the band\u2019s notoriously turbulent \u2018Use Your Illusion\u2019 tour, which ran from 1991 to 1993 and included the infamous 1991 riot in St. Louis after Rose left the stage during a performance of \u2018Rocket Queen\u2019.<\/p>\n

He later continued to work with Rose as the classic Guns N\u2019 Roses line-up splintered in the mid-to-late \u201990s,\u00a0remaining\u00a0involved during the early years of the long-delayed \u2018Chinese Democracy\u2019 era.<\/p>\n

Goldstein was also involved in the 1999 live album \u2018Live Era \u201987\u2013\u201993\u2019, which collected performances from the band\u2019s classic period. He was no longer part of Guns N\u2019 Roses\u2019 management by the time \u2018Chinese Democracy\u2019 was finally released in 2008, however.<\/p>\n

Following Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan\u2019s reunion in 2016<\/a>, Goldstein praised the band\u2019s current management team for achieving what he had been unable to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact\u00a0is,\u00a0I could not get the band back together. They have,\u201d he said in an interview with\u00a0Appetite\u00a0For\u00a0Distortion.<\/p>\n

Goldstein\u00a0is survived by his two sons,\u00a0Jake and Eli.<\/p>\n

Guns N\u2019 Roses are currently on their 2026 world tour<\/a>, which follows\u00a0the release of new songs \u2018Nothin\u2019\u2019 and \u2018Atlas\u2019 last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Doug Goldstein, the longtime former manager of\u00a0Guns N\u2019 Roses, has died at the age of 65.
