\n\tRefresh for more\u2026The heat wave in Europe didn\u2019t damage the foreign box office this weekend entirely, as I\u2019m told business is essentially steady through the region. In the same breath, a heatwave doesn\u2019t help when authorities are advising people stay indoors. That said, the studios are telling foreign exhibs to promote air conditioning. Supergirl<\/a> can cry that she was hit in the head by a World Cup soccer ball in Mexico and Brazil (which had big games on Thursday), and that the heatwave kept people at home, however, like the U.S., the real reason for falling like an asteroid is that she was overall rejected by fans around the globe with a $68M start, $30M from international in 77 markets. Note in reported box office, DC\u2019s bomb Joker Folie a Deux did better with $114.8M WW opening, $77M from offshore in 76 markets at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tHer territory grosses just didn\u2019t cut it, with the pic failing to rank No. 1 anywhere in its top grossing territories. UK was $4.1M (lower than Disclosure Day\u2018s $5.2M and but real close to The Marvels\u2018 $4.1M), Mexico with $3.4M (just under Disclosure Day\u2018s $3.6M, through higher than Marvels\u2019 $3M reported bow), Australia with $2M ($200K shy Furiosa\u2018s reported $2.2M opening, $600K shy of Disclosure Day\u2018s $2.6M), Brazil\u2019s $1.4M (way lower than Disclosure Day\u2019s $2.2M start), Japan\u2019s $1.3M (below Furiosa\u2018s reported $2M opening), China\u2019s $1M (she was dominated by local pic Crossing which made $9M through EOD Saturday, as well as Toy Story 5<\/a>), Indonesia\u2019s $931K (far below Marvels\u2018 reported $3.6M start), Korea\u2019s $885K (under Disclosure Day\u2018s $1.4M bow), Spain\u2019s $849K (under Marvels\u2019 $1.4M), Italy\u2019s $840K (well under Marvels\u2019 $1.7M and Disclosure Day\u2018s $1.9M), Germany $830K (under Marvels\u2019 $2.1M reported, Disclosure Day\u2018s $1.6M) and Thailand with $806K (under Marvels\u2019 reported $1.42M). <\/p>\n

\n\tToy Story 5 easily won the global second weekend with $159.1M, $89.1M from offshore in 49 markets for a global running cume of $585M ($297.2M domestic, $287.8M foreign). The Disney Pixar movie was No. 1 overall again at the international box office in its second weekend, while also No. 1 in nearly all international markets except for\u00a0Norway (No. 2), Poland (No. 2 ), Sweden (No. 2) and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Australia, Toy Story 5 remained at No. 1 despite both Supergirl ($2M) and Minions & Monsters ($2.3M No. 2) opening this weekend. In France, the Toys were also No. 1 over Minions and Monsters opening there (Supergirl has landed in France yet). <\/p>\n

\n\tThe new market for the Pixar Disney movie was Hong Kong where it was second\u00a0highest MPA opening weekend of 2026 to date\u00a0with a 48% market share. <\/p>\n

\n\tUpdated territory cumes include Mexico ($48M), UK ($37.8M), China ($29.8M), France ($15.7M), Brazil ($12.6M), Australia ($12.6M), Spain ($11.2M), Korea ($10.8M), Argentina ($9M), Colombia ($8.5M), Chile ($6.7M) and Italy ($6.7M). <\/p>\n

The thrifty priced $10M production wasn\u2019t meant to gross anything significant; I hear the Johnny Knoxville and crew wanted a sequel and Paramount let them deliver it. It\u2019s evident this nth quel is also play for the Paramount+ service ultimately. Breakdown:<\/p>\n

\n\tUniversal\u2019s Minions & Monsters began its offshore crusade before its July 1 North American opening with $10.3M in ten territories. <\/p>\n

\n\tFrance\u00a0opened to\u00a0$6.1M\u00a0this weekend, across 817 screens, No. 2, performing closely in-line with\u00a0Toy Story 5.\u00a0In admissions, Saturday\u2019s result is +17% above\u00a0Minions: The Rise of Gru\u00a0and very closely in-line with\u00a0Despicable Me 4\u00a0(-2%).\u00a0As a reminder,\u00a0Despicable Me 4\u00a0opened in the summer school holidays while Minions: The Rise of Gru\u00a0bowed on the last day of \u201cLa Fete Du Cinema\u201d (Wednesday). Audience and press reception are strong, with a 3.4\/5 Allocin\u00e9 score, ahead of\u00a0Despicable Me 4\u00a0(3.1),\u00a0Despicable Me 3\u00a0(2.8), and in line\u00a0Minions: The Rise Of Gru\u00a0(3.5). The market continues to experience an unprecedented heatwave, which saw Tuesday post the hottest day in French history.<\/p>\n

\n\tAustralia\u00a0opened to\u00a0$2.3M\u00a0overall this weekend ranking 2nd.\u00a0Minions & Monsters\u00a0saw a strong percentage increase from Friday to Saturday of +143%, compared to\u00a0Toy Story 5\u2019s\u00a0+123%, a good sign as the box office heads into the lucrative Winter school holidays, with half of the country on holiday from Monday June 29, and three weeks of holidays ahead. Local reviews are positive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBelgium\u00a0added a strong $233K on Saturday, taking the\u00a0No.1\u00a0spot for the day, for an estimated\u00a0$755K\u00a0opening weekend across 150 screens. \u00a0An opening at this level is above\u00a0Toy Story 5\u00a0and\u00a0Despicable Me, as well as in-line with\u00a0Despicable Me 3\u00a0and\u00a0Despicable Me 2.\u00a0Holidays\u00a0in Flanders start early next week (Wednesday), with the French-speaking part following one week later. <\/p>\n

\n\tFrench-speaking Switzerland\u00a0opened at No. 1\u00a0in the market with a healthy 30% market share.\u00a0Minions & Monsters\u00a0opened this weekend across 50 screens, to\u00a0$239K,\u00a0well above\u00a0Toy Story 5.\u00a0An opening at this level is the\u00a02nd biggest of the year for an animated title,\u00a0only behind\u00a0Super Mario Galaxy.\u00a0Staggered school holidays begin today, running until late August. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tPreviews not included in the above total are $824K in Germany on Saturday with the No. 1 spot in the market. Remember, Toy Story 5 is going later after the little monsters. Vietnam had $414K in previews, which is the biggest first paid preview day for a Hollywood animated pic, outgrossing Moana 2 and Hoppers. It\u2019s also Universal\u2019s second biggest preview result of all-time there behind Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw. Minions and Monsters ranked No. 1 in the market with a 49% market share, outgrossing the next biggest title in the market, Obsession by more than 2x. <\/p>\n

\n\tOn Friday the\u00a0Netherlands\u00a0delivered $351K\u00a0in previews. Schools closed for the day as a result of the ongoing heatwave, with the latest Minions movie taking the No. 1 spot over Toy Story 5. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe little yellow monsters head into Germany, Italy, UK, Brazil, Spain and Mexico on July 1. China is July 3. Korea is July 165 and Japan is Aug. 7. <\/p>\n
