One such area is the Quick Panel, which allows users to customize the control board to improve usability. If you are wondering how the panel looks in landscape and whether you can customize it, the update has some limitations.

You still can’t create a custom Quick Panel layout for landscape mode

With Android 16-based One UI 8.5, Samsung is bringing the ability to move, resize, and remove any tiles within the Quick Panel. This means you can prioritize the buttons you use most by making them larger or putting them in more convenient positions. Furthermore, it lets you switch the orientation (either horizontally or vertically) of sliders such as brightness and volume, giving you more flexibility in setting these controls.

However, you still can’t create a custom layout for landscape mode. Customization of the Quick Panel is only possible in portrait orientation. The good thing is that all titles, buttons, sliders, and widgets automatically rearrange themselves to fit the wider screen nicely. For example, the vertical volume slider automatically adjusts its orientation to horizontal to match the landscape layout. Likewise, the Now Playing tile transforms into a larger tile, with additional media controls.

Even if you tap the pencil icon to edit Quick Settings while in landscape, the panel automatically switches back to portrait mode for customization. That said, we are looking at a very early build of One UI 8.5, and it’s possible that the firm may include the ability to customize tiles in future builds.

Samsung will debut One UI 8.5 with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, which arrives in early 2026. We still have several months to see how the company refines the software before its official rollout. During this period, it could address current Quick Panel limitations to further improve tile functionality. We will learn more about it as the development progresses.

Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8.5 update will bring substantial improvements across several areas of the system.
