Walton Goggins has teamed up with The Strokes<\/a> for the new music video for \u2018Going Shopping\u2019, which makes nods to Paul Simon<\/a>\u2019s music video for \u2018You Can Call Me Al\u2019.<\/p>\n

The track was the lead single to be shared from the indie icons\u2019 upcoming album \u2018Reality Awaits\u2019<\/a>, which is a highly anticipated follow-up to 2020\u2019s \u2018The New Abnormal<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Although the single was released in April, Julian Casablancas<\/a> and co have only just dropped a music video for the song.<\/p>\n

For the visuals, the band teamed up with actor Walton Goggins, who is best known for roles in shows including The White Lotus<\/a>, Fallout<\/a>, and The Righteous Gemstones, and films like Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.<\/p>\n

The video sees them make a nod to the 1986 music video for Paul Simon\u2019s smash hit single \u2018You Can Call Me Al\u2019 \u2013 in which he teamed up with actor and comedian Chevy Chase.<\/p>\n

In both The Strokes\u2019 video and the Paul Simon one, both visuals see the musician walk into a room with an actor, each wearing blazers and shaking hands, before they sit next to one another and the actor mouths along passionately to the song.<\/p>\n

Taking to Instagram, Goggins shared a clip and explained in the caption what it meant to him to take part in the \u2018Going Shopping\u2019 music video.<\/p>\n

\u201cTHE FUCKING STROKES!!! Video for the first release off their new album, \u2018GOING SHOPPING\u2019,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNever had the audacity to put something like this on my bucket list\u2026 I\u2019ve been listening to \u2018Reality Awaits\u2019 since March..It\u2019s so gatdamn special y\u2019all.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThank you fellas\u2026 Jules, Fab, Albert, Nikolai and Johann for this invitation. Days I will never forget! New Friends. Can\u2019t wait to see you on the road gents! I\u2019ll be singing my ass off in whatever seat I can get.\u201d<\/p>\n

The live shows Goggins mentions refer to the band\u2019s huge upcoming tour, which will take them across the UK, North America, Europe and Japan<\/a>. It will be their first full run of headline dates in the UK and Ireland in over 20 years, and includes stops at London\u2019s O2. Support will come from Thundercat<\/a>, Cage the Elephant<\/a>, Hamilton Leithauser<\/a>, Fat White Family<\/a>, Alex Cameron and \u00d6L\u00dcM, and more dates have been added<\/a> due to huge demand.<\/p>\n

They have also announced a huge New York show with Beach House, TV On The Radio and Fcukers<\/a> at Flushing Meadows Corona Park on October 2. Find any remaining tickets here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also worth noting that Goggins did not thank guitarist Nick Valensi in his caption. This is because the band recently confirmed that the guitarist would be taking a \u201ctemporary break\u201d<\/a> from playing live.<\/p>\n

\u2018Reality Awaits\u2019 \u2013 the New York indie icons\u2019 seventh studio album was originally meant to drop on June 26. However, earlier this month the band announced that it had been pushed back to July 24<\/a>, without providing their reasoning. You can pre-order the record here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Albert Hammond Jr. later said that the date was changed to match the vinyl release<\/a>, and also referred to \u2018Reality Awaits\u2019 as his \u201cfavourite album\u201d that The Strokes have ever made<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NME gave \u2018Going Shopping\u2019 a three-star review<\/a> and described it as a song that \u201cdoesn\u2019t feel bold\u201d but also \u201cdoes avoid playing anything safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou couldn\u2019t definitively place its sound on any of The Strokes\u2019 previous six albums, but the lack of spirit and tenacity \u2013 save for a guitar solo at the end \u2013 is noticeable,\u201d the review read. \u201c\u2018If you\u2019re better than me you don\u2019t have to judge me\u2019, signs off Casablancas, with an imaginary raised eyebrow.
