Some areas in Venezuela<\/a> devastated by twin earthquakes last Wednesday have yet to receive government aid to help with rescue and recovery efforts, residents in some hard-hit towns said on \u200bMonday.<\/p>\n

In El Junquito, a small mountainous region about 33km west of Caracas where Venezuelans often take weekend holidays, residents say they have seen few public officials, while farmers and other residents have been providing basic supplies to the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are waiting for answers, for debris to be cleaned up, for inspections, for people who have been really affected to be helped,\u201d said Keily \u200bIbarra (33), a manicurist leading citizen complaints to authorities. She called on the government to do \u201cwhat needs to be done\u201d.<\/p>\n

El Junquito\u2019s commercial centre was largely destroyed by the earthquakes, with collapsed buildings visible \u2060during a Reuters visit. Several residents with nowhere else to go have set up tents in an open field, despite the risk posed \u200cby \u200cdamaged \u200band collapsed buildings nearby.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know where we are going to be located or how long we are going to be here,\u201d said Tony Abreu, the owner of a local sweet shop who has been living in a tent \u2060since the earthquakes because his home and business are not safe \u200bto return to.<\/p>\n

There have been unofficial reports of deaths after some houses and \u200bbuildings collapsed in surrounding neighbourhoods as well.<\/p>\n

While several international aid and rescue groups have mobilised to Venezuela, most of the help has been focused in La Guaira, the \u200chardest-hit state of a country long mired in a \u200bdeep political and economic crisis.<\/p>\n

The international community has rallied to help Venezuela deal with the disaster. <\/p>\n

The South American country has received support from 24 \u2060nations, which have sent more than 500 metric tons of supplies, more \u2060than 2,700 rescue and support personnel \u200band about 86 canine teams, according to Venezuelan authorities.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s twin earthquakes have left close to 1,500 confirmed dead and hundreds of collapsed buildings.<\/p>\n

Residents of Caracas woke up on Monday to an aftershock that rocked their houses, while rescue teams continued their fifth day of round-the-clock work.<\/p>\n

The 4.6-magnitude aftershock hit north of Caracas early on Monday at a depth of 10km, according to the US Geological Survey.<\/p>\n

No damage was immediately reported from the aftershock, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, said on social media.<\/p>\n

There have been hundreds of aftershocks since last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Salvadoran president Nayib \u200cBukele noted the rescue of 21-year-old Aaron \u2060Levi in a collapsed building in the disaster-stricken state of La Guaira.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis rescue was made possible thanks to the co-ordinated efforts of rescue teams from Venezuela, Mexico, and El Salvador,\u201d he said on X.<\/p>\n

Venezuela\u2019s interim president, Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, also commented on Levi\u2019s story, explaining \u200cthat he was pulled out after 106 hours trapped under the rubble through a rescue operation that lasted 43 hours.<\/p>\n

A senior US administration official said three US citizens are known to have died \u200band 12 are missing since the earthquakes, and that a state department taskforce has fielded more than \u200b300 inquiries from Americans seeking advice.<\/p>\n
