Javier Bardem<\/a> has discussed how metal music inspired his performance in the new Apple TV+<\/a> series Cape Fear.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Oscar winner takes on the role of Max Cady, a convicted murdered who is released from prison and seeks out revenge on the married lawyers (Amy Adams<\/a> and Patrick Wilson<\/a>) who represented him 17 years earlier. In a new interview, he talked about how the metal genre influenced his character.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe absolutely went for a metal look, I loved that,\u201d he told Kerrang!<\/a>, before sharing the songs that he felt resonated with the character. \u201cI listened to five songs especially,\u201d he said. \u201cTwo from Linkin Park<\/a>: \u2018Given Up\u2019, with the great Chester [Bennington]<\/a>, and \u2018Up From The Bottom\u2019 from the last album, \u2018From Zero<\/a>\u2019. I think [Emily Armstrong] is an amazing singer.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe really brought it back,\u201d he continued. \u201cThose two songs really express frustration and the fight for raising up from [one\u2019s] own ashes that [resonates] with Max. And songs by Slipknot<\/a>, Falling In Reverse<\/a> and Bad Omens<\/a>. I\u2019m so bad with the names of songs, but they were in my head all day long before doing anything and helped put me in the mood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor added that the influence is part of a larger passion for the genre. \u201cIt\u2019s not that I use the music,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s that I can\u2019t live without it. It\u2019s what I listen to: when I drive, when I\u2019m being driven, before I go to sleep\u2026 Yeah, I listen to Slipknot to go to sleep. For me, metal is a way of living.\u201d<\/p>\n

That love extends to live performances. \u201cI\u2019m a huge, huge fan of live concerts,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019ve been to a lot, and usually go whenever I can. Sometimes I go to the pit if I can make it, but otherwise I\u2019m privileged enough to enjoy it from a place where I can be left alone. But whether it\u2019s one place or the other, I feel it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cape Fear is adapted from the novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald, and has been adapted twice for the big screen \u2013 the first in 1962 starring Robert Mitchum as Cady, and secondly in 1990, with Martin Scorsese<\/a> directing Robert De Niro<\/a> in the villainous role.<\/p>\n
