{"id":526812,"date":"2026-07-01T01:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T01:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/526812\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T01:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T01:40:09","slug":"teenager-dies-after-falling-from-e-scooter-in-carlow-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/526812\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager dies after falling from e-scooter in Carlow \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A 17-year-old boy has died after he fell from an e-scooter in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\/\">Carlow<\/a> town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/garda-siochana\/\">Garda\u00ed<\/a> are appealing for witnesses to the fatal  incident which took place shortly after 8.30pm on Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Emergency services responded to reports that two young males had fallen from an e-scooter while travelling on Carpenters Way in Carlow town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The 17-year-old sustained serious injuries and was taken to St Luke\u2019s Hospital in Kilkenny. He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The second person who fell from the scooter, aged 18, was medically assessed but did not require immediate hospital treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The scene was preserved for forensic investigation on Tuesday morning, with road diversions in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mayor of Carlow and local Fianna F\u00e1il councillor Ken Murnane said the death was a \u201ctragedy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cEverybody in Carlow is devastated over the death of this young man off an e-scooter. It just shows that e-scooters are actually very dangerous,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Describing the death as \u201cdevastating\u201d, local Fine Gael councillor Paul Doogue said there must be a \u201cclampdown\u201d on e-scooters, believing garda\u00ed have a \u201cbig role to play\u201d in such action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI really think a lot of young people don\u2019t see the danger in them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Tuesday morning, garda\u00ed appealed for any witnesses or drivers with dash-cam footage from Carpenters Way around the time of the collision to contact Carlow Garda station.
