{"id":527395,"date":"2026-07-01T10:09:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T10:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/527395\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T10:09:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T10:09:08","slug":"teenager-who-died-in-carlow-e-scooter-incident-named-locally-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/527395\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager who died in Carlow e-scooter incident named locally \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A boy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/06\/30\/teenager-dies-after-falling-from-e-scooter-in-carlow\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/06\/30\/teenager-dies-after-falling-from-e-scooter-in-carlow\/\">who died<\/a> following an incident involving an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/escooters\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/escooters\">e-scooter<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\">Co Carlow<\/a> has been named locally as Janis Ozols.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The 17-year-old sustained serious injuries after he fell from the e-scooter while travelling on Carpenters Way, a road in Carlow town, at about 8.30pm on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ozols, who was a student at Presentation College Carlow, was initially brought to St Luke\u2019s Hospital in Kilkenny before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Another teenager, aged 18, also fell from the e-scooter, though he did not require hospital treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The scene was preserved for forensic investigation on Tuesday morning, with road diversions in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mayor of Carlow and local Fianna F\u00e1il councillor Ken Murnane said the death was a \u201ctragedy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cEverybody in Carlow is devastated over the death of this young man off an e-scooter.
