Prince Daniel and Prince Oscar traveled to New Jersey to support Sweden in its match against France at the 2026 World Cup<\/a>, joining a growing list of royals joining the fans in the stands. Prince Daniel is the husband of Crown Princess Victoria, heir to the Swedish throne, while Prince Oscar is their son and currently third in line of succession.<\/p>\n

The Round of 32 knockout round match, played at what is normally known as MetLife Stadium, came with low expectations for the Swedish side, which at No. 37 in the global FIFA standings entered as underdogs against No. 2-ranked France<\/a>. The winner of this game will face Paraguay in the Round of 16 on July 4th in Philadelphia. Prince Daniel and Prince Oscar also attended one of Sweden\u2019s training sessions<\/a> in Stockholm ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n

The appearance follows a series of high-profile royal visits<\/a> to soccer\u2019s biggest tournament. The Jordanian royal family attended<\/a> all three of the country\u2019s group stage matches in the team\u2019s debut World Cup appearance<\/a>. Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway were at MetLife Stadium last week<\/a>, an appearance that came together unexpectedly after their father, Crown Prince Haakon, canceled his planned attendance following surgery undergone by their mother<\/a>, Princess Mette-Marit.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s King Felipe traveled to Guadalajara<\/a> on Friday to watch La Roja play Uruguay at the personal invitation of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. King Willem-Alexander and Queen M\u00e1xima turned their trip into a double-header, attending both the Netherlands\u2019 match against Sweden in Houston and Cura\u00e7ao\u2019s match against Ecuador in Kansas City on the same day. The Dutch royals had earlier watched the Netherlands\u2019 opening match<\/a> against Japan in the Netherlands alongside Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. Princess Takamado, a first cousin once removed of Naruhito by marriage, attended that match in person at Dallas Stadium.<\/p>\n

Prince William, who serves as patron of England\u2019s Football Association<\/a>, had not confirmed his attendance at any matches but has been widely expected to travel to the United States to watch England compete at some point during the tournament.<\/p>\n
