Mick Jagger<\/a> has spoken to NME about the \u201cvery easy\u201d experience of working with Paul McCartney<\/a> on The Rolling Stones<\/a>\u2018 new album \u2018Foreign Tongues\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Beatles<\/a> legend teamed up with the Stones for their latest full-length effort \u2013\u00a0released next Friday (July 10) \u2013 taking on bass duties for the song \u2018Covered In You\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Wings<\/a> star and solo icon also spoke to NME about his excitement to get involved in the record<\/a>, explaining that he was \u201cchuffed\u201d to be asked to contribute.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could be a bit blas\u00e9 and go, \u2018Yeah, OK, so what?\u2019 But for me, it wasn\u2019t \u2013 it went the other way,\u201d he said, going on to recall how he felt in the studio.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was like, \u2018Wow, there\u2019s Mick [Jagger]! Ooh, there\u2019s Keith [Richards<\/a>]! Woah, there\u2019s Ronnie [Wood<\/a>]!\u2019 It was exciting. It was really good. A great thing is all I had to do was play bass and not make mistakes, so it was good.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCartney continued: \u201cI went home that day, and I\u2019m saying to everyone, \u2018I just played with The Stones!\u2019 I was glad I wasn\u2019t blas\u00e9 about it. It\u2019s really exciting. Not everyone plays with The Stones!\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, in a new interview with NME<\/a>, Stones frontman Jagger has opened up about what it was like to get the music legend in the studio with them, and revealed that he recorded his part in \u201cthe same session as he did \u2018Bite My Head Off\u2019\u201d for their last album, 2023\u2019s \u2018Hackney Diamonds\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new tune is more of a funk bass part,\u201d Jagger explained, before going on to share what it was like to work alongside McCartney.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very easy,\u201d he told NME. \u201cObviously, I\u2019ve known Paul for ages. He\u2019s not a stranger, but he\u2019s never played bass with us before. It\u2019s a different thing, you know?<\/p>\n

\u201cI said to Andy [Watt<\/a>, producer], \u2018Is he gonna be into this because it\u2019s a punk tune and I want overdriven bass. It\u2019s gonna be simple, no mucking about.\u2019 And Paul did exactly what was needed in, like, 10 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Jagger said, this wasn\u2019t the first time that the two of them joined forces since taking the music world by storm in the \u201860s. Aside from collabs on \u2018Bite My Head Off\u2019 and \u2018Covered In You\u2019, McCartney and his Beatles bandmate John Lennon<\/a> also helped pen the Stones\u2019 second single \u2018I Wanna Be Your Man\u2019 in 1963. The Stones\u2019 Brian Jones contributed briefly to \u2018Yellow Submarine\u2019 and Jagger helped work on \u2018Baby, You\u2019re a Rich Man\u2019, too.<\/p>\n

The two bands also did a one-off performance together in 1968, where they played \u2018Yer Blues\u2019 together, and two decades after that, Jagger inducted the Beatles into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as per Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a>).<\/p>\n

McCartney is just one of the many famous faces that contribute to the upcoming Rolling Stones album, and other names include The Cure\u2019s Robert Smith<\/a> on \u2018Divine Intervention\u2019<\/a>, Bruno Mars<\/a> on cowbell for \u2018Never Wanna Lose You\u2019, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers<\/a> on a cover of Chuck Berry\u2019s<\/a> \u2018Beautiful Delilah\u2019.<\/p>\n

Also in the NME interview, Jagger spoke about how the band have no plans of retiring anytime soon and said that he \u201calready started writing [new] songs\u201d, but is toying with the idea of having them go to other artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you write a song, you sometimes decide \u2018that\u2019s not for me, but it could be for the Chili Peppers\u2019 or whatever,\u201d he shared. \u201cI\u2019m very open-minded to it. I\u2019ve got a lot of stuff, and not all of it\u2019s suitable for The Rolling Stones. It shouldn\u2019t stop me writing them, you know. If you get an idea, just write it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Foreign Tongues\u2019 will also include the previously released singles \u2018Rough And Twisted\u2019<\/a>, \u2018In The Stars\u2019<\/a> and \u2018Jealous Lover\u2019<\/a>, as well as a cover of the Amy Winehouse classic \u2018You Know I\u2019m No Good\u2019<\/a>.
