{"id":528423,"date":"2026-07-01T23:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T23:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/528423\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T23:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T23:58:11","slug":"they-were-two-beautiful-girls-who-were-loved-so-much","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/528423\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018They were two beautiful girls who were loved so much\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A beach that was once a place of giggles and happy chaos for the McLaughlin family of Carndonagh will become a place of remembrance tomorrow, on the first anniversary of the deaths of beloved mum and daughter Natalie and Ella McLaughlin.<\/p>\n<p>Pollan Beach at Ballyliffin is now tinged with heartache for all those who loved them.<\/p>\n<p>It holds memories of ordinary days out with Natalie, Ella and Natalie\u2019s youngest daughter Rhea, before the tragic crash that claimed Natalie and Ella\u2019s lives last July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not go back to Pollan for a long time after. There would be memories everywhere,\u201d said Joanne McLaughlin, Natalie&#8217;s mother and Ella&#8217;s grandmother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do take Rhea there but it is very hard because they (Natalie and Ella) are not there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would be pushing Rhea on the swing, but I should be pushing Ella on the swing too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope that, as time goes on, we will get more peace out there, but it is just difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-640071 in-content-img not-prose w-full\" height=\"1530\" width=\"auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/lsquo-they-were-two-beautiful-girls-who-were-loved-so-much-rsquo.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-serif font-normal text-base leading-6 text-tertiary not-prose\"> The late Natalie McLaughlin pictured with her daughters Ella, RIP, and Rhea on the swings at Pollan Beach, Ballyliffin.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie, aged 27, and her six-year-old daughter Ella died following a collision at Carrowmore, Glentogher, near Carndonagh, on 2nd July 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/lead-stories\/young-man-charged-with-deaths-of-mother-and-daughter-in-carndonagh-crash-639135\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lochlainn Doherty<\/a>, of Doaghmore, Clonmany, aged 18, who was driving the other vehicle involved in the collision, appeared in court last week charged in connection with the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow evening at 6pm, the McLaughlin family will gather at Pollan Beach, shortly before the time the crash happened at around 6.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>They will be surrounded by relatives, friends and members of the community as they unveil a memorial bench in memory of Natalie and Ella.<\/p>\n<p>There will be tributes, songs from a family friend, a balloon release and a minute\u2019s silence.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne said the family does not want the anniversary to pass in silence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is for everybody to know how much they were loved and what beautiful people they were,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is about bringing people together to remember them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will be the nearest you can get to having them there, because everybody will be thinking about them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A natural-born carer, Natalie was the eldest of four, as well as the eldest grandchild and eldest cousin in the family.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie had Ella on 31 May 2019 and began her nursing degree at Magee just months later.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie loved her work as a practice nurse and was known for going above and beyond to help patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was the kind of person who would give extra time to everybody, and it was sometimes to the detriment of herself because she would be exhausted at the end of the day,\u201d Joanne said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-sans font-semibold text-xl md:text-[30px] leading-9 text-primary w-full\">\n        You may also be interested in\n    <\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/news\/donegal-councillor-questions-future-of-pier-jumping-640021\" class=\"block w-2\/5 shrink-0\" aria-label=\"Donegal councillor questions future of pier jumping\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/donegal-councillor-questions-future-of-pier-jumping.jpg\" class=\"max-w-full w-full h-full object-contain relative z-10\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\"  alt=\"Donegal councillor questions future of pier jumping\" \/><\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/news\/comp-teacher-takes-on-mizen-malin-cycle-to-boost-sports-facilities-640001\" class=\"block w-2\/5 shrink-0\" aria-label=\"&#039;Comp&#039; teacher takes on Mizen-Malin cycle to boost sports facilities\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/039-comp-039-teacher-takes-on-mizen-malin-cycle-to-boost-sports-facilities.png\" class=\"max-w-full w-full h-full object-contain relative z-10\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\"  alt=\"'Comp' teacher takes on Mizen-Malin cycle to boost sports facilities\" \/><\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was all about her kids and looking after other people. She started talking early, she was so smart, and she had everybody wrapped around her wee finger.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She would be the loudest one at the park and she would never walk, she would bounce around the place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This anniversary, the family wants people to know who Natalie and Ella were, beyond the tragedy of what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still in shock that they are not here. They were two perfect people. They were a beautiful mother and daughter,&#8221; said Joanne.<\/p>\n<p>Little Rhea survived the two-vehicle collision last July, suffering two broken femurs.<\/p>\n<p>Now aged two and a half, Joanne said Rhea is \u201cdoing really well\u201d after a long recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie\u2019s former partner, Tyrone Irwin, who is Rhea\u2019s father, was also injured in the collision.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-640074 in-content-img not-prose w-full\" height=\"720\" width=\"auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782950290_404_lsquo-they-were-two-beautiful-girls-who-were-loved-so-much-rsquo.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-serif font-normal text-base leading-6 text-tertiary not-prose\"> Natalie and Ella McLaughlin, RIP<\/p>\n<p>Pollan Beach and Ballyliffin were part of the family\u2019s normal routine before the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>On Natalie\u2019s days off, Joanne said, she loved taking the girls to the park, the beach or out for the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBallyliffin was one of our favourite spots,\u201d Joanne said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would be at the beach in all weathers, going for a walk, taking the dog out, collecting shells or stones.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ella loved paddling and would always end up wet on purpose.
