{"id":528501,"date":"2026-07-02T01:02:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T01:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/528501\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T01:02:45","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T01:02:45","slug":"uk-economy-grew-by-0-6-at-the-start-of-2026-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/528501\/","title":{"rendered":"UK economy grew by 0.6% at the start of 2026 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Britain\u2019s economy \u200cgrew by 0.6 per cent in the \u200bJanuary-to-March period, as expected, \u200bfigures from the Office \u2060for National \u200cStatistics \u200c(ONS) showed \u200bon Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The ONS left growth unrevised for the first quarter of this year, but said gross domestic product (GDP) grew by a revised 0.1 per cent at the end of 2025, against the 0.2 per cent previously recorded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Revisions to earlier quarters in 2025 means growth over the year as a whole was 1.3 per cent, revised down from 1.4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cServices were the main driver of growth in the latest quarter, with strength in computer programming, wholesale and advertising only partially offset by falls in rental companies and recruitment agencies,\u201d said Liz McKeown, director of economic statistics at the ONS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cProduction and construction also both grew overall, although construction only partly reversed its recent weakness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The ONS said UK households put away less in savings in the first quarter as consumers spent more in the run-up to the Iran war.
