{"id":52961,"date":"2025-09-30T15:10:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T15:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/52961\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T15:10:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T15:10:09","slug":"orla-comerford-secures-second-gold-medal-with-200m-win-at-world-para-athletics-championships-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/52961\/","title":{"rendered":"Orla Comerford secures second gold medal with 200m win at World Para Athletics Championships \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/orla-comerford\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/orla-comerford\">Orla Comerford<\/a> has become a double world champion after another blistering run to win the T13 200m final at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Comerford claimed gold in the 100m final on Sunday and the Raheny Shamrock sprinter added the 200m crown on Tuesday after yet again leading all way from the gun to the finish line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The 28-year-old Dubliner held off the challenge of defending champion Rayane Soares da Silva from Brazil coming down the home straight, with Comerford once more demonstrating her strong finishing ability to pull away over the last 20m to finish in a time of 24.71 seconds. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image audio_image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1739272379918-c03b2529-1643-4e02-ab77-51ef2d1ea4b6.jpeg\"\/>Provincial rivals get a head start on Leinster<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Soares da Silva was second in 25.24 while America\u2019s Kym Crosby was third in 25.64.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It was the same top three, in the same order, as Sunday\u2019s 100m race produced as Comerford continued her strongest ever season on the track. Her personal best at 200m is 24.62 so Comerford was just marginally outside her strongest ever run at the distance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe goal for me here was to try and win that 100, for me the 200 was the cherry on top,\u201d admitted Comerford. \u201cAfter Monday night I was just like it\u2019s there, I feel good, I feel strong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cAnd I think as well the Brazilian broke the world record in both the 100 and the 200 in the summer so I knew that coming out and beating her in the 100 would put down a mark.
